MAY MAYTAG DRYER WONT START I HAVE POWER WHEN I PRESS THE START BUTTON IT SOUND LIKE IT SHORTED OUT

Could be several things. Door switch, broken belt or bad belt switch, thermal fuse, timer, or motor.

The PF is a power failure code and it indicates the control is not sensing any line voltage
Check the circuit breaker for the dryer is not tripped. The PF could be caused by a voltage drop during a storm but you should be able to clear it and run the dryer

Probably a shorted heating element, bad motor, or shorted wiring.

The power button is usually called a "start" button. For as long as you hold it down, it provides power to the motor. When the motor gets up to speed, centrifugal force holds the switch closed for you. This is why a quick (short) opening of the door will not stop the dryer and a quick press of the start button will not start the dryer.
This, however, does not explain the noise...
The motor turns a belt which wraps (sort of) around a pulley which is on a spring (and also around the drum). The spring should hold tension on the belt, but the belt should not be so resistive (drum refuse to turn) to cause the tensioner to strike anything.
Can you turn the drum by hand?
The drum rides on two wheels. They should roll smoothly.

Well first of all you can check door switch - If the door switch or the door-switch actuator is defective, the dryer won't work and you need to replace the failed component. The switch is inside the dryer main housing near the door frame. Sometimes you need to raise or open the top or front of the dryer to reach the switch. The door switch is a simple on / off switch to indicate whether the dryer's door is open or closed. The dryer will not operate when the door is open. If your dryer runs with the door open, the switch may shorted closed or there may be a dangerous electrical short in your dryer. If your dryer will not start when you press the start button and you hear no sounds, the door switch may be the problem.

You dont need to check motor first. start from door switch. check the continuity of the switch if not making a peep sound when you press the button replace the switch button.
