Try charging it, if this doesn't work then try restoring the device (if you can get it to turn on) if this doesnt work then try the Philips support site, you can email them your problem and they should reply within 3 days. Weedy

Left on charge too long wont turn on

Possible there is a damage on motherboard due to the long hours of charging- it must not happen unless there was some voltage issues.
If a reset does not help then the best option is to take a second opinion for consensus and estimation .

Memorex mpp8585 mp3 player

Well
Why don't you go look for a little hole on your device, the hole is right next to where you plug your earphones in. Then use a lead of your mechanic pencil, and click on it once. It will automatically turn off. I had the same problem as yours and it worked out really good for me

Player wont turn back on

First make sure the hold button isn't in the on position.
Then try pressing the menu button and the play button together at the same time. If that doesn't work try pressing the menu button and other buttons (one at a time). Should nothing work it might be an internal issue. When this happened to mine i just left it for a few days without doing anything and it started playing on its own.
