If its flickering on and off( loss of picture) it could be solder related to the inverter. If the pic stays and the set just flickers lines in the pic then I would think its the LVDs cable to the tcon or the connecters from the Tcon to the LCD panel.
Your power supply is going out, first look on it to see if you see any capacitors bulging up at the top. Also check your inverter boards on the side of set, look for bad caps too.
This model has issues with a small micro fuse that will blow for no particular reason. Poor design most likely. This fuse is a solder on type and is very tricky. Have a shop check it for you before you trash it. Should not be an expensive repair. Thanks for using fixya.
You probably want to contact RCA technical support. As far as I know though there is no force that you can do and most likely you will have to replace the main board. Anyway contact RCA technical support. Was there a particular reason you were updating the software?
lso had the exact problem about 2 weeks ago on my L46WD22.Took it to the authorized repair shop and they told me they had others on their shelf for over a month. Since the board has been on back order for a while, my repair shop called and actually got to talk to an engineer at RCA.The problem seems to be a surface mount fuse that RCA said they also could not get.My repair center said that he found a fuse to fit the board, and though it was a higher rated fuse, installed it.TV works fine and it is back in my house, but the repair center is not getting paid for the work they did not fix it!!!
