The resistor overheated as a result of the diode or the capacitor went bad. Your gonna need to get a schematic diagram and find out what the part #s are as you cant just put in any type of diode capacitor or resistor. Also see what thay voltage source feeds and make sure nothing else is shorted.. Good Luck

Have you try adjusting your focus/screen drive controls to Tube R/G/B you have a focus/screen drive control block to adjust each Tube 3 controls ontop 3under them top ones are for Focus bottom is for screen drive.Red/Green/Blue Tubes. You might need to replace convergence IC, what is your Model number printed on back of TV?
This works with the two other colors, blue and green also. Not all models of Sony Projection TVs have the red, green, and blue pots in the same order as the picture that is listed on this link, so you may want to google search for your model's service manual. The service manual can also help you be able to remove the cover for your particular model of TV. I was able to find the service manual for my model, and sure enough, the order of the pots are reversed on mine, so I would have been adjusting the wrong color. Read all of the comments on this link too, because you can find other helpful tips and may even find someone with the same model of TV as you that gives more specific instructions for your model.
are you getting sound, was it moved laterly, did you just get it from somone, did it get wet, does it make clicking noises, was the picture color/ convergence blurring before this, were the colors slowly seperating such as red/blue/green?, did the picture bow on top and bottom or sides prior to tihs, was there anything note worthy prior to the blank screen.
generally its IC convergence problem with the larger philips projection TV's however I need more info on your TV, also size make model # anything you can provide gets us a more narrowed solution.
