Gateway EC1805U Notebook PC Intel Core 2 Solo ULV SU3500 14GHz 2GB DDR2 250GB HDD 116 Display (LXWFA0X014) Logo

Hi, How do I remove the case from a Gateway EC1805u notebook? I need to replace the keyboard, as it got wet and now ~ 10 keys will not work. I have removed all screws from the bottom of the notebook case, but the top cover will still not separate; it seems to be stuck around the USB sockets, but I cannot see where. Thanks in advance.

HELLO,

PLEASE PUT ALL SCREWS BACK IN...YOU NEED TO WORK FROM THE OPEN COMPUTER ON TOP, NOT THE BOTTOM!

SLIDE YOUR FINGER ACROSS THE VERY BOTTOM OF YOUR SCREEN...THERE WILL BE A SMALL BUMP/MARKING STICKING OUT...

JUST UNDERNEATH THIS BUMP...ON YOUR KEYBOARD PANEL WILL BE A SMALL PUSH TAB..YOU WILL NEED TO MAKE SURE YOUR SCREEN IS LAID BACK...OUT OF THE WAY...SO NOT TO SCRATCH IT ETC,. ALSO TO HELP GET TO THE TAB.

CAREFULLY USE A SMALL TOOL/FLAT SCREWDRIVER ETC.,..TO PRESS THIS PUSH TAB...

LIFT UP THE SMALL PANEL THAT HAS...(THE POWER BUTTON & ADDITIONAL (4) BUTTONS..EMAIL, WEB,ETC,. )...ONCE YOU RELEASE THIS SMALL PANEL...(THERE MAY BE A COUPLE OF SCREWS THERE TO REMOVE)...TO LIFT THIS PANEL.

GENTLY LIFT UP THE KEYBOARD PANEL...YOU WILL SEE WHERE YOU NEED TO DISCONNECT THE KEYBOARD,..PLEASE MAKE SURE YOU MARK YOUR PLUG WIRES WITH TAPE AND WRITE DOWN WHERE TO RE-INSTALL THEM.

(NOTE)...THIS IS ALSO THE WAY TO CHECK YOUR FAN AND MAKE SURE IT IS CLEAN AND WORKING PROPERLY..

IF I CAN BE OF FURTHER ASSISTANCE, PLEASE DON'T HESITATE TO CONTACT ME!

KIND REGARDS,

MARTIE

    Thanks, Martie.

It looks like the EC1805 is built differently than the machine you describe above -- there is no bump on the bottom of the screen, nor any tab anywhere around the keyboard panel. Also, there is no separate panel for the power button and there are no additional buttons... the panel holding the power button is the same molding as the entire top of the case.

Is there a way to post images on this site? I could take a few photos & upload them...? Or else I can try & find suitable images online somewhere.

    Sean.

Sean,

1) Remove ALL power to the laptop. Remove the AC adapter, (Charger), and Battery.

2) Use a multi-compartment container for the various screws you will remove. Mark each compartment for the area the screw/s come out of.

If no multi-compartment container is available, substitute with a clean egg carton. Label each egg holder. (Or use double-sided sticky tape)

Some screws look VERY similar to others, but are NOT.
Do Not mix them up.

@sean916

This disassembly guide is similar in removing the keyboard on the Gateway EC1805U. Go check it out.

Good luck.

Good disassembly guide, but the EC18 series is tiny (11.6" screen) and the chassis is different from most other gateway notebooks. Thanks, though.

Shift key on gateway laptop not working

You can try removing the keyboard from the device manager and restarting the computer.

If that doesn't work then you'll need to swap out the keyboard. Ebay is the cheapest and easiest place to get one ;)

How can i remove my laptop keyboard

Hello

These instructions will help you to remove and replace keyboards onvarious laptops. I will not be able to cover all models but you’ll getthe idea. Steps for removing and replacing the keyboard are similar formost laptops.
Warning!
- if your laptop is still covered by the manufacturer’s warranty, do not open the case or you can loose the warranty
- always remove the battery and unplug the AC adapter before you open the laptop case
- if you damage the keyboard connector on the motherboard you’ll have to replace the whole motherboard
- proceed on your own risk

Be careful, on some models the bezel might be connected to themotherboard as it shown on the picture above. If you accidentallypulled the cable, connect it back. It is not necessary to disconnectthe keyboard bezel from the motherboard in order to remove and replacethe keyboard, just put it aside so you can access the keyboard screws.

Gateway

Hi Lizardo -

The best bet for resolving this problem would be to replace the keyboard. The part can be ordered easily on the internet. It's a replaceable part that's very simple to do.

Take care,

7330GZ Gateway laptop keyboard doesn't work

There is one thing you can try. Uninstall the drivers for the keyboard from the device manager, then reboot. The machine will find the keyboard and reinstall the drivers automatically. If this doesn't work, then I'm afraid the Shift key function has failed and the keyboard will need replaced in order to fix it.

Sticky keys

Dear rwertheim

Try the following guide

http://www.laptoprepair101.com/laptop/2007/03/20/key-fell-off-keyboard/

There are no guides from Gateway for the keys available for the but this guide will be more than enough to help you through this one in order to remove them. Its should be completely the same principle.

Cleaning the keys should be done without alchohol based cleaners because the lettering might be erased. Use some soap and warm water instead and gently scrab with a soft brush the bottom of the keys.

Please remember to take out your laptop battery/ac adaptor in any case since you will be working at hardware level with your equipment.

Regards, and I wish you no more sticky keys!

Please dont forget to rate this solutin!

Notebook Keyboard, some Keys doesn't Work. Replace the entire Keyboard??

Remove the keyboard and check if the cable is plugged into the laptop correctly which is usually not the case. Usually the keys may have been damaged and you may have to buy a keyboard replacement.

Gateway Laptop M305CRV

I have not worked on your model before but have done many laptops. be sure the part you have is correct. get some small screwdrivers, as you disassemble it, lay the screw around it where they came out. some times case screw are hidden under stickers on the bottom. (nice hu?) be VERY careful with the data/ribbon cable (probably dark gold in color)
