Why would my crosley dryer get really hot but the clothes don't get dry

If the dryer is getting hot (the heater element is working) but the clothes aren't drying, it suggests that there is insufficient air flow through the dryer. Remove the exhaust tube from the back of the dryer. With the tube removed and the dryer running, check for hot air (lots of it) flowing out the exhaust vent of the dryer. If there is good air flow, check the exhaust tube for lint build-up or a clog that is blocking the air from flowing through the tube. If there is no air coming out of the exhaust vent with the exhaust tube removed and the dryer running, it suggests that the problem is with the exhaust fan inside the dryer.

No lint on filter? Where is it all going? Checked exhaust vent bought a vacuum attachment and there is no lint. Twice and sometimes triple the drying time! Help!

Instructions
  1. Dryer Does Not Run
    • 1 Close the door firmly. The dryer will not operate if the door is not completely closed.
    • 2 Press the "Start" button firmly or push the knob in to start the dryer.
    • 3 Turn the dial past the "Off" position and away from "Wrinkle Prevent." The dryer will not start in the "Off" or "Wrinkle Prevent" position.
    Long Drying Times
    • 4 Remove the lint screen. Clean it and replace it.
    • 5 Check the temperature of the room. The dryer will not operate properly in temperatures below 45 degrees Fahrenheit.
    • 6 Inspect the area around the dryer. It requires at least 1-inch clearance on the front and sides of the dryer. A 5-inch clearance is needed on the back of the dryer. Move the dryer, if needed.
    • 7 Separate large loads and do not use an air dry cycle.
    Lint, Stains and Wrinkles
    • 8 Clean the lint screen before drying each load of clothes to prevent lint buildup on clothing.
    • 9 Add fabric softener sheets before starting a drying cycle. If the sheets are added after the load has partially dried, they can leave stains on the clothing.
    • 10 Dry small loads and remove clothing as soon as the drying cycle completes to prevent wrinkling.
    Dryer is Noisy
    • 11 Check the inside of the dryer for loose change, buttons or other items. Empty the pockets on clothing before drying.
    • 12 Separate items that are knotted together and restart the load. Knotted or balled up clothing will bounce and make the dryer vibrate.
    • 13 Level the dryer. Turn the leveling legs on the front of the dryer clockwise or counter-clockwise until the dryer is level. Turning the legs clockwise will lower the dryer. Turning the legs counter-clockwise will raise the dryer.

Dryer is slow dryng takes two cycles compared to regular dryer

As the model number you provided indicates this is a gas dryer, you need to open up the access panel, above the washer compartment, to clean out the dryer compartment.

It is likely that either the gas burner components have been covered in lint and dust and are getting shut off sooner than they should because of overheating of the thermocouple safety device, etc.

First, make sure that the power is turned off to the washer/dryer unit and turn off the gas supply valve, so you don't have any issues with getting a electric shock or getting a gas leak/build up.

Once you've done that, you can remove the two (2) access screws that will let you get into the lower dryer compartment where the gas burner and control devices are located (this is the panel just above the washer lid, the angled section).

Now vaccum out all the lint and dust buildup you can see and check that everything is free of dust and lint inside this area. Pay special attention to the gas burner and gas inlet orifices, as anything in there can and will cause the dryer to shut off and thus, not operate properly in getting your clothes dry in a normal drying cycle.

Also, check to see that the dryness sensors inside the dryer drum (silver bars up near the top left or right of the dryer drum) are clean and don't have any residue or buildup on them. This can also cause the dryer to register erraticly when using the automatic drying cycles versus the timed drying cycle. Use a good glass cleaner and wipe these sensors with a clean cloth rubbing them briskly to remove any residue or contaminent that might be deposited on the sensors.

Now completely clean out the exhaust vent all the way from the dryer to the outside location of the vent. Having any blockage of the vent can and will cause the thermal overload protective device to function and turn off the gas burner that provides the heat to dry your clothes. So be absolutely certain that the entire vent exhaust is clean and free of any lint buildup from the dryer all the way to the outside vent (yes I mean't to repeat that!) You'll have to remove the outside vent grate/cover to check for any buildup/obstructions there.

Now you can run a load to see if you've gotten the problem solved, if not, it could be a control module, but 80% of the time, it is nothing more than a "housekeeping" issue that causes loads not to completely dry on the first cycle. So please do some cleaning and checking and you should be back getting your clothes dry on the first cycle!

Hope you find this Very Helpful and best regards!

My dryer is taking too many times to dry my clothes!

hello tmivie,
When you say you took the dryer apart and cleaned out all the lint, did you also check the vent system all the way to the outside and at the end where the duct exits your house? If you are getting heat and limited or restrictive air flow, your drying time will be excessive.. There may be other problems such as the blower itself isn't functioning properly to move the air out.. Since your dryer is electric, you can detach the vent line from the dryed and turn it on.. feel the exhaust flow to make sure it is pretty robust then reattach the vent and check for about the same flow at the exit point of your duct system. Let me know if that solves your problem or not so we can look at other ideas..

Rick

When the clothes are drying you can smell something burning and the clothes smell burt when they are done. Coleman

You may have a venting issue. Check your lint filter and venting system. Excess lint builds up and goes onto the element and burns off. This can be dangerous and a fire hazard. Clean your vents, even open up the dryer and vaccum it out too.

My Miele T8322 Tumble dryer turns off before the clothes its fully dry even in Extra Dry mode. The vent pipe is clear. Is there any kind of adjustment or do I need to get a new sensor under warranty...

IS THE DRYER PUSHED UP AGAINST THE VENTING IN THE BACK OF THE DRYER? IT MAY BE CRIMPING THE EXHAUST MATERIAL CAUSING A RESTRICTION.

IF THAT IS O.K., DISCONNECT THE EXHAUST AND RUN A LOAD OF LAUNDRY THROUGH A NORMAL DRY CYCLE.
IF THE DRYER DRIES THAT LOAD O.K., THERE IS A RESTRICTION SOMEWHERE IN THE EXHAUST. ALSO, CHECK THE LINT TRAP. IF THERE IS A WHITE CLOUDY FILM ON THE LINT FILTER, TAKE A WIRE BRUSH AND CLEAN IT OFF. IT IS RESTRICTING THE AIR FLOW AT THE FILTER.

CHECK THE LINT FILTER HOUSING FOR A BUILD UP OF LINT. IF THERE IS, USE A CENTER CARDBOARD FROM WRAPPING PAPER ATTACHED TO THE END OF THE VACUUM HOSE. FLATTEN THE CARDBOARD TO FIT INTO THE FILTER SLOT AND CLEAN OUT THE LINT.

Maytag dryer

Dear sloika,
I do not believe the problem lies within the dryer unit.
when the dryer unit fails to dry clothes in reasonable time 90% of the time it is the clogged air vent is the reason.
Dryer vent cleaning improves the safety and efficiency of your dryer installation. As dryer vents become filled with lint and other debris, drying time increases and can cause the dryer itself to overheat. This increases energy consumption since the dryer has to run longer to dry your clothes and can also cause fires in the dryer or the dryer duct. The Consumer Product Safety Commission reports dryer related home fires are on the increase.
  • First check your vent hose between the back of dryer and the air outlet on the wall. Vaccum clean the dirty hose and even into the dryer unit using flexable vaccum attachment. also try to vaccum clean airoutlet that goes into your wall as far reach into and much as possible. The dryer's lint filter and its path needs to be cleaned as well.
  • If all air flow path are cleaned it will improve 200% of your drying time.
There is also professional dryer vent cleaners in your area who can help solve the problem. just check your yellowpages..

Good luck!
