One of my stove burners has a short in it and when I try to use it it goes on and off.

Hello Kathy;

My name is Peter. I am a retired field service appliance technician.

You did not provide a model number so I can only guess at what you have.

If you have an electric glass top range, your burner element has a thermostat. This thermostat (temperature sensor) runs from the center of the burner to the edge of the burner where there is a wire connector. I suspect this component is either cracked or the connector is bad.

Large electric burner will not turn on

you need to check the wiring to that burner it appears that there has been a short to the burner

Heater short cycles burner fires up won't stay on for long fan kicks on and chamber cools down and short cycle starts over again.......ther is a solid green led indicator lit up and I can't find so far...

i take it the burner is pizo fired(electrically ignited), if so, there is a flame sence wire down by the burner that senses the flame, if it don't, it shuts everything down for a short time then tries to restart. check senser at burner or circuit board.(a little more info would've been nice)

Infinite switch sparking!!!!

You have a short somewhere between the switch and the burner connector. Probably a wire's insulation has worn away or melted and is allowing the wire to contact the metal housing somewhere. You will see arc marks wherever the short is located. Look carefully where the wire passes through any holes or where sharp turns are encountered.

Top burner shorted out and now the indecator light stays on. and the burner will not heat.

Hi, It sounds like the infinite switch has shorted out. You will need to change the burner switch. Did you have the burner tested or replaced?
Make dure everything conected to that burner is ok before changing the burner switch.
Please let me know if this helps you at all or if I can assist you further.

Thanks

Viking Range

Juliac, the burner valve switch for that burner is either shorted or grounding out. Each burner control has a valve switch that controls the power to the igniter. Sometimes they just get full of gunk and short. Part number is PA020015. Catriver...post back.

Ignite problem

imfornu, under each burner control is a valve and a switch that controls the spark to each burner. Sometimes these switches become wet or short out. In this case it sounds like yours is shorted in the closed position and therefore the spark. These switches run on a harness across each burner control valve..I believe the part number is PG220020, you can look it up on the net to get an idea of what it looks like...Catriver..post back.
