My printer is not hooked up to the computer. It flashes L1. Called Sharp and they said to send in for repairs or exchange after he had me do somethings to it. The error code that was flashing after he had me do somethings was 004 611. I know that L1 means it is locked- but it is not locked. When the tech from sharp had me do some things the bar did move. Can I fix it myself. Thank you.
I fixed this problem (after exhausting the usual) by removing the actual scan locking plug. It is a design fault. I do not think there is any other solution. By the way it is not difficult to do.
According to another source, the L1 error means "Scanner position error". Hope you find a solution, and not an expensive one.

I have the same problem where my scanner bar won't move. I called sharp and they had me go through a series of steps to reset the machine, but it still would not move and the lock switch is not in the locked position. Is there something I can do to fix it? I can't afford to send it to Illinois from California, the whole shipping and repair would cost me an estimated $300.
I have the same problem with my Sharp 1540cs. Scanner bar starts to move and then errors out with L-1. I have turned off the machine, checked the Lock Button, cable, cleaned and lightly oiled the scanner rod and it still gives me L-1. I can move the scanner to the opposite end and the machine will return the scanner to the starting end. I also got an L-5 and once an E-7. I don't know what the problem is but sure would like to try to fix it.
