Question about Palm Zire 21 Handheld

Suddenly it will not take activity by screen. Pressing or drawwing on the screen gives NO results, as if screen is dead. Buttons still work. Just cannot add, change, or access entries. Can the database info be transferred to a new Palm of same model, or other model? It will no longer "talk" to my computer, hasn't since I bought a new computer and couldn't make it do HotSync.

    I have tried two soft resets. A hard reset will kill all the data in storage and I have no backup. This palm will not do a Hotsync with my new computer, same windows model "XP". I have tried loading the s/w disk from Palm and it still will not Hotsync. I'm trying to find out if the data in this Palm model Zire 21 can be extracted by cable and transferred to a computer or another Palm. If this can't be done, I'll just take it to Geek Squad and see if they know of a fix. Any other suggestions will be appreciated, and tried. Terry

    I tried the download and found my name listed as the "owner", or whatever. But I don't know how to initiate a Hotsync from the computer. The PDA will not respond to it's screen commands and the only way I can make a Hotsync will be if there's a way to do a Hotsync with a computer command. Do you know if this can be done?
    If two of these Zire's could be connected directly, could a new one be used to do a Hotsync between the two PDAs?
    I saw a message of advice from someone who posted to another loss of screen control. He told how to take the back off and take apart so he could access the screen from the inside. He said that worked for him. But he wasn't explicit on how he made the screen start working again.

    Done! Fini! Total wipeout. I finally found contact with my Zire 21 and tried a Hotsync. It wiped out my whole database of contacts. I forgot to tell it to ONLY download from PDA to Computer file. Instead what it did was download a complete blank from Computer to PDA and now I have lost EVERYTHING I was trying to save. Years of compiling phone numbers, addresses, birth & Wed dates, etc. are all gone. Thanks for trying, but I just got too anxious to try a Hotsync and didn't stop to think. Terry

Hello.

First, try a soft reset:

Open a paper clip and press in the reset hole on the back panel of the handheld.

If still a problem and your Zire data has been backed up to your PC, try a hard reset:

Use the opened paper clip and press in the reset hole on the back panel of the handheld while holding the Power button. Follow the process. Please note that all your data will be wiped clean, so only perform if you have backed up your data previously.

If you haven't been able to do Hotsync, it may be due to your operating system. If you have Windows 7, 64-bit (not 32-bit), USB HotSync is not supported. Instead, synchronize through a Bluetooth wireless connection.

    I wonder if you use System Restore, if your data would be restored. Boot your system to Safe Mode (press F8 repeatedly when powering on). Go to System Restore and choose a date prior to removing your data. Note: with System Restore, all your updates will roll back to that date. Follow the process.

Note: uninstall first all programs relating to Zire 21 from the control Panel before installing this hotsync program.

    You did a hotsync and it wipe out your database? The phone numbers must have been downloaded in the computer before it was deleted on the Palm. Not unless you issued a direct command to wipe out everything.

Sounds like the problem is the LCd screen already. Have you tried doing a hard reset to your palm? The data in your palm can only be transferred using Hotsync. Try uninstall/install the software again to the new computer. May i know the Windows OS of the new computer and what is the model of your Palm.

The Child Lock feature is accidentally activated during the move. It can be deactivated by pressing and holding a button or combination of two buttons. Look for a button or adjacent buttons with the child or padlock symbol between them. Press and hold the button or buttons simultaneously until the CL on the display turns off. Garmin Edge 305 completely dead, any ideas why? It worked yesterday.


I found that switching the device on and/or off while connected to the computer can leave the screen blank, and won't give any sign of life when the ON/OFF button is pressed. In reality the device is on and the batteries will drain. Try a RESET in that case by pressing ON/OFF and MODE buttons, and briefly pressing the LAP button.

Hi my MMI system on 2004 A6 asgone dead, no power


No solution, same problem, but had many strange moments: 4 months ago during 100 kms or so it stopped, then suddenly came back, and worked ever since. A few days ago, it started happening again: NAV stuck, then radio dead, and gradually the rest disappeared. I did a Reset, and since that moment I see the intro-screen and then it goes black. Hitting the TEL button is somehow also a Reset...

Do the previous 2 posters have anything to report on this matter? It would be VERY welcome!

The main screen is frozen. Not one of the buttons reacts.


I moved the "hold" button a few times back and forth and suddenly the screen started working again.

My remote is suddenly dead. I've changed the


remove the batteries. press any two buttons simultaneously for 2-3 minutes to reset the control. reinstall batteries and should work. this is in the owner's manual as well

If you done, all what is possible. Now try do next:
Push camera button and wait until camera frame will loaded. Dont release camera button. Now push hard reset key. And during restart keep camera button. Whan system will loaded, you can try use camera.

HP rx3115 hard reset


Had the same problem with my hp rx3115 . Worked fine, then the next day dead. power button, lower buttons, or outter reset button didn't work to turn it on. Okay so, i thought it just needed to recharge. Used computer cable for active synchronizing that also recharges, still dead. Then cable just for recharging. Finally comes on. Charged it all the way up, synchronized it, unplugged it, few minutes......dead. The battery is no good.

it sounds like your remote has got damp or over time the dust builds up behind the buttons you should be able to take the controll apert and remove the buttons check the pads are clean and not greasy then wipe over the board with some clean cotton cloth where the buttons pads press on to activate usually its just a bit of grease but check their is no button jammed it sounds like this could be the case as you get a different response to pressing the play button so try this first then if dont work still clean the buttons and pads be carefull not to dammage the pads they should come out all together and have little black pads stuck to them make sure their xlean and grease free if this still dont work then you can get but make sure its not one of the cheaper ones a all in one remote this should solve your problem hope this helps
