The picture on my TV has suddenly become compressed in the vertical dimension. It's only filling about 50% of the vertical size, at the center of the screen. It's definitely a misadjustment with the picture tube, because the problem is the same for TV input and VCR. How can I adjust the vertical hold, or whatever? Thanks :)
Nope sorry to say that its not an adjustment and most likly a capacitor in the vertical sweep curcuit. if you know how to troubleshoot solid state electronics then use a mutimeter and measure the b+ voltage on the vertical output and see how much you have. If its below 20 volts thenb its the filter cap. off the flyback xformer . This is a very very common problem and you can locate this part without a schematic by looking at the cap> #s and find the one with the same seris # as the other vert parts do ie-r4**,c4** so on and so forth. If you replace this and not much chenge then replace the vert output IC. There could also be a small cap right next to the driver/video ic with the same seris # called a wave shaper cap. Could be bad. NOE there are 100"s of volts inside a tv set even when its unplugged and I would advise that IF tou dont have the know how or experience to work on this then Please take to a servicer in your area as you can get one heck of a bite that Ive seen throw grown men against the wall(including myself!!) Good Luck
