Has the laptop been damaged? Dropped? Same on battery? Remove battery, try AC only. Try another cord/charger with the EXACT same power specs. Reseat Memory mods. Test the DC volt output, at the laptop plug in, with a multimeter. Power issues are difficult to diagnose long distance.
Sounds like the clunk most Sets have when dead cold and first turned on= a degaussing coil which will not stop the set from working.
If the power light does not make it on someone has to open the unit and see if the fuse inside is bad---not exactly a light set either and if you are not able consider either a shop or replacing the set as some repairs on this model can get rather expensive.
