Question about Zoom H4 Handy Recorder

Mac OS 10.4.11 does not recognize the Zoom H4 recorder

My MacBook Pro with Mac OS 10.4.11 does not recognize the Zoom H4 recorder and I need to move the sound files from the recorder to my computer. Is there a driver I can use to allow my computer to recognize the recorder? This is equipment that belongs to my church and I asked the purchaser if software came with the recorder, and he said it did not have any software in the package.

I am trying to access the info off the zoom H4 on my Mac running OSX.4.11 but it does not recognise or see the H4 at all. Do I need to download a driver for it, if so how? The zoom site doesn't seem to have a driver for the Macs only the PC's.

I have this same problem and don't understand how to get the upgrade from my Mac to the Zoom H4.  The Mac doesn't have an SD card reading port and the directions from the website are to download to the card then put the card into the Zoom for the download to complete.  Haven't even gotten to the Cubase program to see if there will be problems yet!  LITTLE HELP?

I'm really irritated, the Zoom website's downloads just don't work on my MacBook Pro. I need a solution fast.

Mac OS 10.4 and higher require the Zoom H4 to be upgraded.
Go to  http://www.zoom.co.jp/english/download/software/h4.php#a  and choose the download to version 2.20 that applies to you. The instructions are there, but it is a little tricky. You must download the upgrade to your computer and then transfer it to your Zoom SD card.  To do that you need an SD card reader.  I used my digital camera. I took the SD card out of the zoom and put it in the digital camera. I Plugged the camera into the computer and when the SD card icon appeared on the desktop I dragged the "System Bin" file from the download to the zoom folder.  The rest of their instructions were pretty good.   Good Luck.

I think an update to H4 Version 2.20 solves the problem. I'm about to try that. Go to  http://www.zoom.co.jp/english/download/software/h4.php#a for update software & instructions.

Take it back to where you bought it and ask them to update the software for you. If they can't/won't maybe think about your level of support in future based on their service in this instance.
Bought it online cheaper than at your local music equipment supplier? Well, I guess you have learned the meaning of the universal inequality price does not equal cost.

Cannot connect to PC

Do you have an SD slot in your mac? plug the sd card there and see if it works. Erase manually the files (leave the system files) and try again with the H4. Luck

Connecting / Mac / Tiger / Midi

I have just downloaded and installed the version 2.20 of the software for the H4 from the Zoom site. It solved my problem and the H4-SD card now shows up in the Finder as expected.

Note that I formatted a spare SD card to do this update in order not to lose any existing sound files.

Zoom h4 Vista recording

Don't know if this is the problem in your case ... but here's what I did:
Note: I have Win XP
Previous to attempting connection between laptop and H4 as an audio interface I updated the H4 firmware to ver2.4 and connected to the laptop successfully as a card reader. From the laptop, I could see files I knew were on the H4 card.
... but when I tried connecting in Audio I/O mode, my laptop didn't know what to make of the H4. There was a USB mass storage driver associated with the H4 - I could see this from the "Device Manager". I "uninstalled" the USB driver associated to that "unknown" USB device. I terminated the audio connection on the H4, then reconnected. !!! It was recognized as "USB Audio Device" in the "Sound, video and game controllers" section of the "Device Manager". Before, it was listed under "Universal Serial Bus controllers" as a generic USB device with a yellow warning highlight indicating there was something wrong.
Hope this helps!

Software problems

Are you using Vista? I've posted another threat here (still no answer), cause I can't get Vista to recognize H4 as Audio I/O. I've also sent a mail to Zoom in Japan. They answered in english thanks god, telling me to upgrade the soft in H4, I can now move files to the computer, but still can't get Vista to recognize H4 as an Audio I/O, I mean, in record devices, Vista shows "camera mic and line in", that's all.
Ok , good bye
