When laptop is turned on it goes to bios password can not enter computer at all,was purchased second hand, have upgraded hard drive, computer tech. wanted $200 to put in new cmos chip, please help me
I have had just the same problem, i took my laptop apart removed the cmos battery its just to the side of the trackpack on top of the motherboard, but this did not work, HERE is the solution with out stripping the all the laptop make sure the battery is out and no power to the laptop all you need to do is take the plastic part with the power button on off and underneath you will see a small switch called SW1 move the number one switch to on then power up the laptop press F2 and there you go your in the bios, save all settings turn off put the switch back to where it was put you plastic facia back on replace the battery power up now press F2 and do what you want all is good
this worked!, travelmate 2410 couldnt get to bios, password protected. got plastic cover off and lo and below a sw1 switch (yah!) change setting to on and restarted f2 and im now in the bios screen!...thanks very much
glad you got it sorted, hope it all works for you now
Customers laptop had similar issue, 3 owners on and no clue about password. System needed reloading but no way to boot dvd without BIOS access. This method worked 100%. Was a bit nervous with cover clips near power button but they proved more hardy than I gave them credit for.simmo365 thanks for saving me from endless hours or reading/googling and my customer thanks u also you a legend.
Sweet mother of god, you're a lifesafer! :D

Hi Robboman,
Thanks for your email in the forum.
Disable the Bootup Password is quite hectic work and need extra Hardware knowledge, if you have, then you can do it.

Thank you my friend simmo365!
MANY THANKS SIMMO365 yoiu are genius
You need to reset the BIOS password. One way is to dismantle the laptop. Once you can see the board, look for a battery that is similar to watch batteries but is much bigger (the circle flat kind). Remove it then put it back again. It will reset the BIOS settings on the computer. The tech guy would be just doing the same thing.
Hope this saves you $200.
