Hitachi 42in tv started to show purple color over whole screen.i could see picture and here the sound ok just a purple color.tried the button on the front for color called magic focus no help.now picture went all black with only sound and can see some of the picture mostly orange color in background.

Hi Randy, it sounds like you have a timing control board from another model or series TV, they can look identical but have different programs in the processor IC, if this isn't the case then something was changed in the service menu while the set wasn't operational. We've seen it happen in our repair center, we replace a board with the correct part but the picture is upside down or reversed, had to have happened when the owner was pushing buttons without a picture on the screen

The color wheel is your suspect.......usually whines a bit
when bad. In a quiet room, you can hear it when the TV is powered on or off. It spins at 9,000 rpm ( wears out the bearing).
The lamp will not exhibit those symptoms....

Press "Input Select" on the remote control and select "TV Mode."

Press "Menu."

Press "Enter" to select "Picture."Use the arrow buttons to select

"Picture Setting."

Press "Enter."Use the arrow buttons to select "Color."

Press "Enter."

Use the left and right arrow buttons to adjust the color settings. When you are pleased with the color setting, press the "Exit" button on your remote to exit the menu screen.

When dlp tv start showing darker picture then its time for new lamp to get back vivid picture.

This is a convergence output IC problem. convergence board would have to be removed - remove and replace 2 STK IC's and check the surrounding resistors.Shops usually charge from $200-$300

If its a LCD projection TV (such as Sony Wega, Hitachi, Epson, Philips, and some Panasonic, some Mitsubishi), and the green image is in the whole screen or just one part as a blob. Is most probably that one of your LCD Color Filters is damaged (burned out or starting to get busted), I don’t know if you can just replace the color filter, I believe you need to change the whole light engine system or the optical block. There are some places around, I found some on ebay but you should definitely try on discountdashmerchantdotcom their price range $260.00 - $330.00

This is a Logic board problem, not so easy to replace in Hitachi but well worth the repair if I had your zip code I could recommend a person or three. But the problem is a problem in the logic board and will beed replacement, Thanks for using Fixya.com
