It is possible that there is a faulty switching which can be related to a poor power switch, faulty or dry points in the main power supply unit- the SMPS unit- switch mode power supply or possible errors in the processor section. http://www.fixya.com/support/r5826301-working_switch_mode_power_supplies
You need to trace with a multimeter to first check the mains voltage on the mainboard- power supply unit. If absent there is connenction fault . Also if there is power but only on interuption the SMPS triggers then it is possible that the start up feedback to the SMPS is faulty. Check for weak capacitors or bias to the SM drivers.

That is ths symptom of dying power supply due to bad DC filter caps, that will be the first palce to check, it will get worst and go dead completely.
