I have a set of DVD-RWs that I've been using with my Panasonic recorder for a few months. They've all worked fine until about a week ago, when the recorder stopped recognizing ALL of them. Sometimes it will let me view them, but most of the time it says there is a format error. The unit will no longer record on DVD-RWs. However, it still records on regular DVD-Rs. What could be causing this problem, and how can I fix it?

Re: Recording & erasing problems
Could be a cleaning issue or the laser is weak or out of alighnment and if you dont have a service manual and at least a 60 meg scope your gonna need to take in the unit to an authorized repair center. Good Luck

If your dvd player only supports dvd+r discs then that is the only way it will record. It will only record once onto the dvd-rw and, since it doesn't support the re-writables, it won't be able to use this function. This is the most likely reason for the first error. The second problem is a little confusing. Is it when you are trying to record on dvd-rs or dvd-rws that it says it can't record?
I hope this post was helpful (for the first error, anyway).

Hi,not shure if this is your problem but if you are recording shows from tv & you are in av2 of output you will have no recording even though it shows that the recording has begun, all tv recordings must be in the av1 output mode to record from tv I have learned that few times thinking that all is working but to find out that I was in the av2 output mode which was really not recording the whole time, before I begin any recordings I from now on check that I am in the av1 mode then I know the recording will be working, take care ECK
Take, if good batteris from the remote controller and recycel the unit, and by a better one. I have the same problem, recordings will stay on the dvd only a short thime readable and later the disk is empty.
