You have a gremlin in your typwritter?? No you may though have a few stuck buttons as I used to fix these word processors all the time and that was very common. If thats not the problem then its in the controller assy PCB and its expensive as every board on this unit is only replaceable as an assy. IF its available!! you could call the main support # in your owners manual and see what they tell ya or call here. 800-276-7746 Good Luck!

I have a brother sx-4000 typewriter, when i turn it on, there is a beeping noise an the little screen saidspitch10 line1 word spell. Can somebody tell me whats wrong with my typewriter?

If beep that does not stop after start up you may have bad key switch or the ribbon end sensor may be stuck . Check it out, and get back with any info nomatter how small , listen to it very closely when you turn it on you should hear the print assembly check for the home position, this may seem insignificant but my be the vital info that tips the scales you way, good luck, Bret

When i type letters they come up with other letters that don't correspond with the keys I hit. I have the brother sx-4000

If you aren't in KBII or a language mode or P.S. pitch the printwheel homing pawl is probably broken. You need a tech.

Hi i have a Brother SX-4000 electronic typewriter and for some reason when i press shift 2 i get n with a ~ over it instead of the @ symbol that i'm trying to get. Please help.

You are in KB II mode some T/Ws have a slide switch, some have a key that must be used with the code key.

Go to BROTHER.COM, click on support you will find a manual there.

Brother SX 4000 stopped printing. Ribbon is

Remove and inspect the ribbon cartrige, wind the knob and make sure that the ribbon moves and reinstall. Check that the correction tape is installed properly. Check that the ribbon plate assembly is not in the correction position. Try CODE RESET (Q key)

Everytime I try to type a letter/number the wrong one appears?

what kind of typewriter? if it has a PS position on the pitch selector, move to 10 or 12. Coding on PS printwheels is defferent that standard. Also check for damaged spokes on the printwheel

Typing wrong letters on Brother SX-4000

Try hitting [CODE] + [RESET] at the same time to reset the cartridge. Make sure the cassette is installed correctly.. the "ear" on the cassette should always be on the upper right.

Brother typewriter sx 4000

make sure the ribbon and correction tape are installed correctly between the metal fingers on the far side of the printwheel and the cardholder. make sure there is no forien objects in the P/W or anything touching the petals on the P/W. turn mach. off for 10 secounds then back on or just hold down the code key and hit the Q (reset) if it still doesn't work, it will need repair or replacement.

Turn it on and it makes a high pitched noise. Does nothing else.

Look closley at the carrier is it positioned on the rail correctly? Can you move it left or right by hand, if it moves faily freely it is ok and it has an other problem.
