My Dyson DC14 Animal brush stopped spinning after I cleaned out the hair on the brush. I took everything apart thinking something got stuck, and nothing was found. I took off the grey floor attachment and checked to see if the belt had fallen into a wrong position but seems fine. I put everything back together and it still wont work. The belt doesnt spin either. I need help please!!

Hi there,

I'm sorry to hear you're having difficulties with your DC14 Animal. The brush control system is designed to make a ratcheting noise to warn you if something jams the brushbar. To ensure everything is correct with your machine, please follow the quick troubleshooting checks shown in our online support guide:

http://www.dyson.co.uk/support/help.asp?article=668&product=DC14-ANIMAL

Please note, the brushbar will never rotate when the cleaner is standing upright, or if you have the brush control set to 'Hard Floors'.

This should allow you to resolve your issue without further assistance. However, if you've followed the steps shown in the support guide and are still concerned, please call us free on 08002980298 (UK), or 1866MYDYSON (US). One of our experts will be happy to run through some troubleshooting over the phone with you to establish the cause of the issue, and will be able to recommend the best course of action.

Kind regards,

My Dyson DC 14 is making the horrible "ratcheting"sound only when the brush is engaged on the carpet setting. I have cleaned the brush, so there are no obstructions, the canister is empty and...

Something is causing the brush to slow down, either it is full of hair or debris or the brush itself is wearing out and may need changed. The noise you are hearing is the motor protector keeping it from burning up becuse there is some type of drag on the brush. If there is no issues with the brush then I would suspect the clutch assembly is worn and needs replaced. Here is a diagram for you to look at and go from there.

I believe the clutch on my dyson "animal" is stuck. It makes this horrible noise when you try to lower the brush roll to vacuum.

Hi its Darran at Dyson.

Your machine is designed to make this ratchet noise if the brush bar is obstructed. We would recommend checking the brush bar and soleplate area and removing any blockages or hairs/threads that are wrapped around the brush bar.

Full details on these checks can be found in our Support section online at www.dyson.com.

Kind regards

Dog hair gets caught all the time in the belt drive spool, is there a fix for this other than having to pull it out all the time by hand? I have replaced the belt and the brush but this hasnt solved the...

My Dyson started making a loud noise when in "carpet" mode. After reading a ton of forums I thought it was the clutch assembly. Got a new one on eBay for a great price. Somewhat hard to replace, but thanks to this YouTube video, I was able to get it in: http://www.ezvacuum.com/dyson-dc07dc14-clutch-assembly-90025204-genuine-p-1636.html

HOWEVER this did not resolve the issue. I realized the beater bar was not spinning or was slipping. I thought I cleaned it all out but realized you need to take the beater bar out and pop the end cap and clean out the INSIDE of the beater bar (tons of lint and cat hair). I additionally sprayed WD40 in there.

It spins great now and in the end I think that's all I had to do was clean out the cat hair build up inside the beater bar. But now I have a new clutch & belts too. Hopefully won't have issues anytime soon.

Dyson making loud noise

If your brushroller isn't spinning it will make the loud sound. Try removing the brushroll and reinstalling it. If this doesn't work, you may need a new brushroller. You can find one here...

The brush bar on my Dyson DC17 stopped turning.

If this model has a brush control - i.e a roller at the side of the model which controls brush to spin or not, then its a protected brush model - therefore even if the drive belt is intact the Dyson would have to be repaired by a service personnel or professional. The brush protection isn't able to be taken apart and sounds like it may well have slipped off due to tension.
