Question about Sony KP-41T65 41" Rear Projection Television

1 Answer

No Picture I have a 1999 SONY KP-41T65 41-INCH TELEVISION. I had a problem with the colors a couple of months ago, and had a repairman fix it for $350. About 2 weeks ago, the picture has gone dead completely. There is still great sound, but no picture. i feel like i have a 41" radio in the livingroom. Any ideas? - I don't want to invest so much money in another repair again. Can I fix it alone? - What part do I need? Can i sell it to someone? - Any suggestions? thanks /

Well hard to say really without more to go on so I'll just be able to guess as what i've seen or had with this set. Most of the time when you lose Picture and still have sound its a vertical sweep fault. The set cuts out the brightness so the tubes dont get burn lines in them. Another fault could be with the HI Voltage distribution block. Now to fix it if you know how to read a schematic then you can buy one get a multimeter and start taking some voltage measurements around the Vert output. If you never done anything like this then You'll have to decide if you wanna spend more money on a sets thats only seven years old? Good Luck

Sony KP-53V85

My unit is 9 years old, almost 10 (in 2 months) and started the same a couple of months ago. The only way to fix it is to have them serviced by a tech and replace the projectors. Its just the age/use of the unit catching up with it.

Many resellers sold them with an offer to sell you an optional maintence service where they would fix/clean/replace the projectors for upto 5 years after purchase. I'm not sure if they even have the parts anymore since these tv's are no longer produced. After market repairs are likely to cost as much as or nearly as much as buying a new flat screen tv.
