If you dont have rechargable NiMH batteries get these first. Alkalines just dont have the power anymore these newer devices need. If you do have NiMH and yours still having problems try and tap on the lenses as you power it on. As the motors that drive the autofocus and the lens mechanisim wear they draw more current. When this happens the unit draws more power then the batteries can supply and you run into problems. If your camera has a battery pack you may need a new one. They test them new and everything is good on paper but after some use things change.

I dropped it and it says zoom error

Sounds like the power zoom assembly (motor, gears, etc), has jammed due to the drop. That and possible electronic problems on the controller board or possibly the zoom switch itself suffered damage in the drop also. Try working the zoom switch rapidly , back and forth a few times and see if it frees up. May be a candidate for the repair shop. Sorry for your accident.

C8080 acting weired

The mode dial switch, zoom and power are all on the same ribbon cable. If you can spray some electrical contact cleaner into the crease of the mode dial, power button and zoom lever, it may be enough to get thing going again. I would try this with the camera inverted to reduce the spread of the cleaner. The upgrade process takes about 35 seconds. Make a file called firmware on your memory card, download the .bin file into the firmware folder and turn on the camera in play mode. The current version of the firmware will appear and an OK, press "OK" and the firmware will start to update. Do this after a factory reset as you stated that it was stable for 30 minutes. Good luck. Contact me pishta68 at hotmail dot com if you have any questions. I have 2 and a "half" of these cameras. I think the most current firmware is v757-78

Cannon zoom sd870

hi have you tried removing the battery for couple of hours so it can reset any settings that need to be set back to default it only resets camera memory not settings you have changed but this can sometimes solve the problem your having.

Also when you switch camera on and then press zoom when the camera switches off does the lense go back inside the camera as normal or does it reamin out.

when you switch in on do all the other buttons work like can you take picture and can you access all the menu if you can then take it off auto if its on auto then see if this let you use zoom if not then the chances are their is a fault on the zoom button either jammed could be that the lense motor has come out of line with zoom button, is the display clear when you go to take picture without adjusting the zoom is it still possible to take pictures

Zoom is stuck

Just check the DC power supply flowing to the Lens block control. Some times the SMD fuse blows off and power may not reach the lens block motor.
