My Coolpix 2100 got damp and has been malfunctioning since- it turns itself on automatically when batteries are fitted and although you can see picture on camera screen, I cannot transfer them to PC. The control buttons work irregularly, but the camera still takes pictures! Any ideas? Thanks, Al
I've kept trying it for the last 6 months and it still isn't working- should be dry by now. Thanks anyway, AlI've kept trying it for the last 6 months and it still isn't working- should be dry by now. Thanks anyway, Al

This is because the Coolpix 2100 and 31000 models cannot handle a card
of that large a capacity. As it's only a 2MP camera anyway it doesn't
need it.
The Coolpix 2100/3100 will usually accept up to a 512MB
CF card, and 1GB Lexar CF cards up to and including the 24x WA write
accelerated (although write acceleration itself offers no benefits on
this camera). With Sandisk only a plain old and now obsolete SDFB
allows a 1GB card to be used and the regular Sandisk Ultra (not Ultra
II or later) will only work up to 512MB.
The camera was
discontinued long before these much larger CF cards were released and
Nikon no longer actively support the product so no firmware updates
will be available. The hardware wouldn't support such cards anyway.

From the menu of the camera, you need to change and select the settings for the pictures. Some cameras have this option where it will take one or more picture automatically. Also check that the self timer is off.
My camera freezes like this when the battery starts to run low. I think it has something to do with the flash. I just leave it to sort itself out for a few minutes even though I'm usually missing some good photo opportunities n eventually it sorts itself out. Trick is not to keep turning it on and off, and fiddling with the dial.
I just purchased a new battery door for $15 with shipping from nikon. They sent a simple assembly diagram and I was able to replace the door in 30 minutes. I used a dremel to cut the old door off, but you dont have to do that. I got a little impatient.
Just buy the plastic piece and u can reuse the metal parts for your old battery door.
