I just helped resolved a few of these issues? Your display driver is corrupt & needs to be disabled,then a fresh one installed from IBM, I just fixed my A30 thinkpad. Mine was extreme where I had to rename and remove the display driver folder swo the OS would not locate it there, then restarted. ?Your monitor isnt going bad as you might be thinking.
This indicates a possible memory problem. Reseat the RAM modules and boot up, if OK then the laptop is OK.
If not then :-
If you have two RAM modules, remove both and insert one and boot up, if it is OK then repeat with the other one - this will determine which memory module is faulty.
