What is the complete definition and/or reason for a "Tamper" error message?

"TAMPER" displays on Vx510, Vx610, or Vx670 terminal Problem/Task "TAMPER" shows on Vx510, Vx610, or Vx670 terminal Environment VeriFone Connect Any Verifone manufactured device that has the capability to contain it's own internal encryption (including Vx510, Vx610, or Vx670 terminal) Cause The message: "Tamper" will appear on the Vx510, Vx610, or Vx670 terminal if it is physically opened, damaged, or if it is jarred enough to flip and enable the internal tamper 'switch'. The reason for this is to ensure any sensitive data that passes through the terminal during a credit card transaction is not intercepted or compromised. Customer Solution/Action 1.

Verifone units has multiple sensors built inside for security reason. If you acceidentally dropped or jarred the unit, the sensors will kicked-in and give that error that you have now. And i'm also thinking about your internal system battery is getting low too and needs to be replaced. Then we need to reload the Verifone Tamper Removal Software to clear the Tamper error. is your verifone you are talking about is a pinpad 1000se or the creditcard machine (VX510, VX570 etc.) and bad MAC (message authentication code) and i believe if the machine is not encrypted right or the encryption was errased for some reason, bad mac will appear. I've seen some of bad mac error together with tamper error on VerifonePinpad because the battery is going bad. Replaced battery and load the encryption, pinpad works again. Please try USB connectivity instead of SCSI. It is lot easier and unlike SCSI, there is no sequencing required. (With SCSI, you need to start the device before you start the Computer). You can switch on the scanner when you want!

This game came out a few years before Windows 7 was around, it's very likely not supported on Windows 7.

It is possible that you have lost your pin-pad encryption. This may have created the error on the vx 570. I would be open to talk to you about this problem. call Frank @ 775-338-6634

There is too much noise on the line for a valid connection between two fax machines to complete. The noise problem might go away over time.

Solution

Retry the fax reception at a different time when telephone line conditions have improved. Call the telephone provider if line conditions fail to improve.
