Most of sony cameras work like a removable storage device. Meaning when you plug it in windows sees it as another hard drive and puts an icon in my computer next to the "Local disk C:" Anyway here is the link to the software. On the disk(s) are drivers for all operating systems that need them. (Windows 7 and up do have all drivers for hardware that is certified by Microsoft) And there are programs to download the pictures from the camera to the PC. Sometimes the manufactures also delivers software to organise the pictures in folders and software to view or even enhance the pictures you shot.
When you lost the disk, most of the time you can get the software on the website for your brand. Sometimes you even get newer, updated software and new drivers if needed.
If you can't get software form your brand, you always can install other generic software like Ulead, Pixir, BeFunkey, Gimp, Photoshop express. Or if that is not possible you could install an external memory card reader and download the pictures via de memory card reader.

How to download pictures from camera to laptop
before you can download pictures, you should install the software that came with the camera. On the CD are not only drivers for all known operating systems, but also the software, needed for the computer ro recognise the camera and to stream the pictures to the computer.
If you don'e have a CD anymore, try the website from the firm where the camera came from. Or use software like lightroom, gimp or Flickr

Looking for the driver download
Transfer software.
Most brands of cameras deliver a CD with the camera, containing software, needed to backup, transfer and work with the pictures shot, on a computer. Most of the time there is software is for both, Windows and MAC.
Before you connect the camera with any computer, you should install the software. The disk also has the drivers for the old operating systems.
If you lost the CD, or just don't know where it is right now, you can go to the site of your camera brand and try to download the software you need. For that look under support.
If your camera is old, and the brand does not exist anymore, try a freeware picture transfer / editing software pack. Like Gimp or Adobe Photoshop elements.

Downloader says no pictures on camera
Depending on the version of software you have the drivers may not have loaded correctly. Try using a USB port on the back of your computer and see if it loads the drivers then. If not you may need to reinstall the software and the downloader. You may need to uninstall the DB CIF Cam depending on the version of software you have. The reason for this is if the camera was connected to the computer before the software was installed then Windows loads the most generic drivers it can find for the camera. From then on if the camera is connected to the computer Windows continues to load those drivers and not the correct drivers. Simply connecting to a different port can correct this or reinstalling all of the software can correct this.
