The sound is perfectly fine, but the picture flickers and jumps constantly.

I have the exact same issue. the flicker appears to be going back a forth from the current scene to the previous scene change. Could it be a buffer issue?

What does it do when you hook up a powerpack? i understand its suposed to be portable but the DC voltage may not supply enough to keep it a constant. Could be a bad ground or its picking up some static in the air.

Two possibilities: 1)The pickup or 2)the LCD Screen and its counterparts. By your description, I can't tell for sure. Is it like someone is turning the screen on and off, or does the sound actually get misaligned with the picture? In your case, it probably wouldn't be worth the repair for either as parts for this particular unit cost 80$(US) and up. If it's the screen itself, you're looking at a 200-400$(US) repair.

When i put a disc in and play it the picture keeps shutting off and then coming back on......skipping on/ off on/off on/off

The problem with you DVD, is that the lens needs to be replace. The skipping and stopping of the picture is as a result of a faulty lens. the distortion of picture is the symptoms of bad lens.

I have an XDVD271 and the picture flickering or skipping. The audio is fine. What is going on?

Try to check/toggle the int - ext A/V switch on the left hand side of the unit, that might solve it if it is only on one screen, if it is on both it is most likely the DVD player itself, try with a clean good DVD to check if it could be a dirty or scratched DVD.

TV picture flickers

If your DVD player is separate from your tv, you might have a loose cable plug or connection. Depending on the type of flicker you have, a vertical circuit loose connection would cause this. If you could connect it to a cable or antenna it might tell you where the problem is located. A faulty circuit in the DVD might cause this too. Stargazer

Hitachi skips over commercials & flickers

If by saying the "aspect ratio changes" you mean the picture shrinks from top and bottom, I would suspect an intermittent short inside one of your picture tubes. The commercial skip function is not causing a problem here. It is the rapid change from dark to light that I believe is putting an extra strain on a weak or defective picture tube.
