Question about Nortel MER-9417CW Telephon Corded /2 Line Speakerphones with Caller ID and Call Waiting, Almond (MER... (A0674968)
Replaced the Adapter a few years ago which solved the problem but not this time. I notice the new one heats up now and has not solved the problem of the display going blank, and a sort of sporadic clicking sound when I pick up the receiver. I am able to make and receive calls. Could the motherboard be the problem? How can I diagnose this problem, get the parts I need, and from where? Appreciate any help before I just throw it away! Rich
If a new one is heating up that means theres an overload in the phone and will certainly burn out a new adaptor or if your saying the new adaptor you bought a couple of years ago is heating up the the diodes or filter inside the old adaptor is bad and replacing adaptor with a new one will fix it . Good Luck

Sure But it may not be able to without a meter as if it(the adaptor) is heating up thyere is a short inside the phone somewhere Most likely its gonna be like a zener diode a filter cap or simply an ic thats drawing too much current. The onlr right way to fix this woould be to see how much current the unit draws and get a schematic and start disconnecting things and measureing the current or try to open unit and smell around for heat or by feeling. Maybe you will get lucky and see or feel whats getting hot and that would be the part thts drawing too much current. Let us know what you find as if you need more help I'll be here!! Good Luck

I am using this great LCD for about an year. But few times in the past my LCD didnt show up the display though the Green light was still ON, turning off the LCD and opening it again always solved the problem. But now My LCD completely went blank. Turning off/on didnt work at all now. I've tried couple of other tweaks mentioned on this site but they didnt work. I am just seeing a blank screen with green light ON. and ya theres a very low hissing sound coming from the LCD.

Also, I note now that a loud hum occurs when I plug the phone. The hum remains even if I disconnect the phone line and handset.
Techman,
Thanks for your quick answer. I probably was too vague on describing by problem.
The new adapter I just bought is heating up. The phone hums fairly loud and their is noise on the line.
I assume something is wrong with the phone not the new adapter. Can You give more advise for me to try to fix it myself?
thank you very much for your help.
