I have a stihl ts 510 av cut off saw that is almost impossible to start without ripping your arm off when it kicks back. what is the resolve to this problem?

Does it start and run.? Is this just a recoil issue.? Do you use the decompression button on start up.?

1. bad gas or not getting gas(sqirt starter fluid in it)
2. air filter dirty-clean it
3. bad sparkplug. - replace it
4. No compression (too easy to pull) motor worn out.-toss it
With very little detail in the question thats about the best I can do.

if it's an older unit start with pulling the muffler and cleaning exhaust port and spark arrestor. while muffler is off sta.rt the unit and check for improvement. if no improvement clean & adjust carb. if improved with no muffler, test again with muffler installed. if unit goes back to running poor replace muffler.

There could be a few problems. Check the air filters and make sure that no holes are present in them. Then check to make sure the unit has compression. A general check of the compression for a Stihl unit is to hold the unit up by the rope and it should hold itself up. If it slips down really quick or if it does not hold itself for more than a couple of seconds before the rope starts coming out, then the unit is low on compression and will need a new piston and cylinder.
Also another thing to check is the carburetor. With the new fuel with ethanol/methanol in it, it can damage parts in the carburetor. The sealant that went over the welch plugs will come off and it will flood the unit out because there is no regulation of the fuel going into the engine. You can try putting new sealant, such as clear fingernail polish over them, and see if it holds and will regulate the fuel correctly. If the air filters have holes in them then the low compression could be caused from dirt ingestion and it could have caused wear on the main bearings. You can check for bearing wear by seeing if the flywheel or the clutch will move up and down and sided to side. If this is the case then you will need to purchase a new unit.

This is not difficult. The impulse hose as it is called presses on to a brass fitting under the intake manifold. remover the filter housing, filter, carburetor, and tank as needed to make room to get in and replace it. Parts can be ordered from you local dealer like www.arcolawn.com

try carb adjustment or carbon buildup behind muffler

replace the decompression valve. also check for carbon buildup on top of piston. usually when a saw stops on its own after 5 min or so.... the piston and jug are scored and need to be replaced.
