When i flip open the i860, the back light wont turn on. if i move the screen like if im going to close it, the light turns on.i can still use it because if i dial a number i can see it but its the light that wont turn on.
It is also possible that the small magnet the provides the magnetic field through voltage is supplied to the lighting circuit may have been removed. This is common with flip phones which housing has been removed.
The solution is to get the magnet and replace it. The magnet is situated somewhere around the base of the flip.

The ribbon that connects the flip to the actual phone is pinched, that's why u can only get action when you act as if ur going to close it. The solution is two part, depending on your skill: NOVICE, go buy a new phone, actually I got a couple nextels 4 U (i670, i860 and an i930). Second solution is the you get a new flip off of ebay or something like it and attach that one instead, or u could clip out the pinched portion of the ribbon and reconnect it. I wouldn't try it if when you open the phone you don't know what's what.
I forgot to give u a line for a new flip. Try this one:http://cgi.ebay.com/MOTOROLA-NEXTEL-I860...I forgot to give u a line for a new flip. Try this one: http://cgi.ebay.com/MOTOROLA-NEXTEL-I860-LCD-SCREEN-FLIP-OEM-REPAIR-PARTS_W0QQitemZ110066321960QQihZ001QQcategoryZ50331QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

It's the backlighting, inverter, pinched wire, or the on/off switch, when you open or close the lid. Take a look at this video, it will give you an idea where to look : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2Yi6GNFcP3w
hi, the main reason the screen turns whits is due to the thin ribbon that sends the data from the circuit board to the screen being damaged what happens is that the thin copper wires that are inside the ribbon ware and then break causing a short to the screen and this is what turns the screen white. this happens on most flip and slide phones as the ribbon moves when you slide or flip the phone so over time it becomes brittle and you lose the connection and this turns the screen white.
sometimes it will right itself if you open and close the phone a couple of times but this wont be a long term fix how ever it may be that bad that this will no longer work, its not expensive to get this ribbon replaced but taking you phone to a small phone shop would be your cheapest option.
there is a short in it this is typical of flip phones. If your savy enough order a replacement lcd and get your self a T-set (screw drivers) for phones
MOST SCREENS R NOT ON IN THERE RESTING STATE, THERE USUALLY A MECHANISM THAT TURNS THE SCREEN OPEN WHEN IT OPENS, TRY SLIGHTLY PUSHING THE SCREEN BACK LIGHTLY TO SEE IF IT COMES ON HOWEVER IF U CAN RESET IT , TRY THAT IF THAT DOESN,T IT WOULD HAVE TO BE REPAIRED FROM THE MANUFACTURE
There could be a problem with the flip down iris protector. If the Sanyo is on and you flip the protector down manually then the projector will go into standby mode. This is obviously to protect the system incase it ever gets flipped down accidently and the system is on. There could be a faulty switcher inside the protector mechanism which is not working properly and the machine thinks that the screen is down when in fact it is open!
Switch off the entire projector at the mains and open and close the screen a few time manually. If you feel comfortable doing so try and force the screen up a little bit past its stopping point when it is supposed to be fully open. Be careful and don't break it. Now keeping it open plug it back in a see if that works and don't touch the protector ever again! If it doesn't try opening and closing a few more times to try and release the triggering button that is inside the projector screen.
can yall help me
