I replaced my belt in the JVC A-21 and it turns for 2 revolutions before popping the belt. The platter itself going in the clockwise direction gets really tight. Spinning it in the opposite direction loosens it but it freezes in the regular direction. Any thoughts?

Thanks John. I think I fixed the problem. The belt felt fine based on having a few other turntables. The metal center post seemed to be dirty and also need some lubrication. There was a lot of gunk which was causing friction. I cleaned it up, wiped it down, put just a little WD-40 in the center where the post sits and now the turntable works just fine.

How to remove Platter on JVC L-A120 Turntable

Hi Jeff...
The platter on the JVC LA-10 does not come off as most turntable platters do. It is attached to the spindle with a Philips head screw.

Here are the steps:
Remove dust cover from turntable. Unscrew hinges and lift.

  • Turn the turntable on its side and remove screws that hold the top to its base. Remove platter by unscrewing the bottom plate from the turntable. The spindle bearing is held in place with a Philips head screw. Loosen it and the platter will separate easily from the spindle.

  • Loop replacement band around the pulley cylinder in the motor. Replace platter and bottom plate. Tighten spindle screw. Test the new belt by turning the platter clockwise two or three rotations. Belt should fit snugly and turn with little resistance.

    How to replace belt

To replace a turntable drive belt.
Before starting ensure you disconnect the power supply.
1, Remove the rubber platter mat to expose the platter.
    2. Put your thumb and forefinger through the two round holes and lift the platter off. You may need to give the center spindle a light tap (whilst applying upward pressure) with a screwdriver handle or some similar tool that will not leave any marks or damage.
    3. Remove the old belt and wipe the platter pulley and motor pulley with an alcohol swab to remove any old belt residue.
    4. Place the new belt around the platter pulley making sure t is sitting flat without any twists.
    5. Flip platter over the right way up. There are1or 2 larger rectangle shaped cut outs in the platter.
    6. Through the cut out pinch up the belt and slip a finger or belt hook between the platter pulley and the belt gripping the belt ready to fit over the motor pulley.
    7. Align the center hole of the platter with the spindle and place platter back into position keeping a grip on the belt.
    8. Slip belt over motor pulley and give the platter a light clockwise rotation to ensure the belt is riding correctly.
    9. Replace the rubber mat and then run the turntable to ensure correct operation.
Remember, when changing between 33 & 45 rpm the platter must be rotating to ensure correct belt repositioning on motor pulley.
    Job done.

    Turntable does not function

Turntable Belt... Try to picture this, remove the c-clip holding the platter to the center spindle. Remove the platter and turn it bottom side up, place the rubber belt around the platter and fix it to the little post sticking up on the outer-edge surface. The little post holds the belt to the platter while you turn the platter over and put it on so that the post points right over the motor pulley. Turn the platter by hand either clockwise or counter-CW and the belt will pop off of the post and land on the motor pulley. One drop of oil on the center spindle for lube and fasten the e-clip back on.

How do I change a drive belt on my JVC L-A11 Turntable

Lift felt on platter and and lift the platter section off the unit by putting your thumb and forefinger through the two large holes and pull upwards. There should not be any special routing for the belt and should go directly onto the spindle motor to your platter. Place the belt around the inside rim of the platter while it is still off the unit. Now replace the platter and move the platter around until you see the spindle motor through one of the holes. Use some tweezers to manouvre the belt onto the spindle motor. On some units you will have to lay the belt out inside the unit, replace the platter and manouvre the belt onto the platter. Hope this helps

How to replace the belt on jvc l-f130 turntable

You will have to lift the platter section off the unit itself. Check for the spindle motor turing the table and lay the belt out around the spindle motor. Refit the platter and work the belt around the inside of the platter through the two large holes in the tray.

How to lift up the JVC L-a21 platter for changing the belt? Thank you in advance.

I am not familiar with this exact turntable, but on most belt driven turntables, the platter should simply pop off. There are usually holes in the platter once you remove the rubber mat. Put your fingers in the holes and pull up while pressing down on the center spindle, and the platter should pop off. Sometimes you have to put on a little force to get it to come off.
The holes in the platter are to allow you to attach the new belt to the motor spindle once you put the platter back on with the new belt.
