Question about Kicker Car Audio & Video

1 Answer

My aftermarket speakers (4) in my truck are acting up. # out of the 4 aren't putting out any sound except the highs from the tweeters... No rips or tears, what is going on? I believe they are DS series 5x7s

Sounds like you have blown tweeters in your kicker speakers. Depending on how loud you play them, this can occur. For your next purchase, I recommend components. They are usualy made better and have individual speakers for separate frequencies. Good luck

Need to replace tweeters. Anyone have specific info on aftermarket tweeters that will work

Replace tweeters with units having the same impedance as originals so amplifier loading is the same.

If unable to get exact replacement for unit, then it is important that you also replace the corresponding tweeter(s) on other channel since all speakers sound different and have different efficiency. Result will be unbalanced sound.

Tannoy v1 reduced brightness from one tweeter, diagnose? replace? honestly unsure if broken tweeter is the duller one or the brighter one, help?

I assume you have more than one of these speakers. If so simply remove the tweeters from the two speakers and swap them around. If the other speaker acts up then, you know the tweeter is faulty. However if it stays on the same speaker it's the crossover that's the problem.

It's probably blown tweeters. But if you want to spend the money on a hipshot guess, try to find the the crossovers somewhere first; then find the readily available tweeters if/when that doesn't work out. Google "alesis monitor one MK2 tweeter".

You could test the tweeters by just removing one non-functional tweeter and wiring it directly to the speaker leads and with REALLY LOW volume containing NO BASS see if it makes any sound, which would prove it does/does not work.

Going forward, if the speakers sound stressed at high volume - THEY ARE. Too much power or too much distortion (overdriven amplifier) will kill speakers.

If all speakers except some of the super tweeters in my gem sound tr-150 cabinet aren't working, could it be the crossover network that they appear to be all wired to, is no good, or do you think all...

Did you actually mean "all speakers... AREN'T working" except some tweeters? Crossovers don't protect the woofers. If crossover die all speakers they protect go silent due to loss of signal. Excess volume or distortion kills speakers and not always linearly.

If you said it wrong and some tweeters work, I'd suspect the latter above...

You (or we) could guess or you could take out one tweeter at a time and swap it with a (presumed) working one or just emasure it for dead short or open with an ohmmeter. If the tweeters check out and work elsewhere the problem would likely be within the cabinet.

Back speakers can't handle bass

you need to replace all the speakers in the truck except the front tweeters if you have them. I replaced all four with new infinitys from futureshop. Installed it was near 500 dollars. You need to get 2 ohm to match the infinity deck if yours is infinity. Most other systems are 4 ohm, these are 2 x 2 ohms for 2 and 4 ohm use. the factory's are garbage and use paper cones. The rears have plastic caps holding the tweeters in. On all four the paper was ripped away from the magnet and it caused them to vibrate and shake, once replaced with 180 watt infinitys...great sound.

On my 99 4 door the factory amp is powered by a hot pink wire in the truck harness. I hooked the cont. power for a motorized ant. to it and all 4 speakers work. I'm going to check today to see if they work correctly because I found this out late last night and only had it on for a few minutes. I've read that there is a harness for this that apparently you have to specifically ask for at a car audio shop. hope this helps.
