Sony projection television model kp-53hs30. when turned on the screen is ok for about 30 seconds, then pops and slowly turns fuzzy or broken up, for about 30 seconds, clears and then the cycle starts again. if you use the split screen feature, it works ok. any help???

I've had my television for approximately 5 years. This morning while I was watching the news, my tv did a loud pop... I went to see what happened and my television was making cracking noises... no picture, I could hear the sound but nothing. and then it went pitched black. I then noticed a triangle sign (Caution sign)... what does this mean? I don't know if this is something I can fix on my own. I was thinking about taking the TV apart myself and then seeing if I could find anything unusual. If someone out there is reading this, your opinion / comments will be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
