Question about Sony Handycam DCR-PC330E Mini DV Digital Camcorder

1 Answer

Sony handycam DCR-PC330E Mini, purchased in Tokyo, April 2004 - Was working as normal, then suddenly went 'dead' - no light showing when on charger (which had been working fine up to date), tried another battery, but still no sign of 'life'. Usually, when battery low or flat, functions like the operate button and cassette eject, still work. Currently, the camera is completely lifeless.

This is not a monster you wanna open and play with as I've seen this puppy and its loaded with flex cables connecting all the differant pcb's together. You wanna take this or send out to a camcorder specialist please. You also need a special set of these cables to work on this unit as well as a few special service jigs. Good Luck

Cant instal drivers

usb streaming function is not readily supported by windows vista. this would depend on the software that came supplied with the camcorder. unfortunately, the software being incompatible and the funtion (usb streaming) not supported by driver included in the supplied cd-rom, usb connection will not work (although you can use it for still picture transfer). for tape transfer you would need to go another route which is ieee1394 (ilink or firewire) connection. it should be a plug-and-play connection. your computer should support and have a working ieee1394 (ilink or firewire) card installed. a compatible ilink cable for both devices and a video capturing software like windows moviemaker and having all the needed hardware and software then your good to go. hope this helps.thanks:)

Draining battery

This camera has had problems with the primary switch block faulting. The camera will power up all by itself when unattended and drain the battery. Another symptom would be the battery refuses to charge fully because the camera must remain in the "OFF" mode for the charge process to begin. Sony in Laredo, TX is replacing these controls at little or no cost, I would call them to see if they will repair this for you. Hope this helps you. Sony Handycam DCR-HC30 2004 model

Your unit is a 2004 model. If it has never been used since then the battery is probably no good and will need replaced. Batteries discharge 20% on a monthly basis just sitting on the shelf so yours went dead a long time ago. Then if they are left in that state (dead) they sulfate which means that sulfur oxides transfer to the plates and form an insulating surface. At that point all the charging in the world is not going to bring it back. All you can do is get another one. They are available at most stores which sell electronics. Get a new battery and charge it per the instructions and try using it again. This should solve your problem. Good luck.
