Try unplugging power cord for ten or fifteen minutes, if this does not help try using a cleaner CD.

Try first unplugging power cordfor a while (turning off it is not enough). This will drain power from the circuit s and can fix some problem.

If it did not help try using a lens cleaner CD, often when lens is dirty the DVD does not recognise the disk and can return a protection error of this kind when it tries to write.
Here you find DVD lens cleaners.

Try also using a different kind of dvds, often a DVD RW does not work well with a particular DVD brand or type.
Try with one DVD +R and one DVD -R, possibly try good brand one (TDK, Philips, Verbatim etc.) if it works on one of the two DVDs, it means your unit had developed a problem on one of the two DVD types. This is due to the different correction error used by the two formats, and usually is also a lens related problem.

If DVD lens cleaner did not work, you can only clean the lens taking apart the DVD. Access the lens pickup and clean the lens with an extra soft cotton stick and isopropyl alcohol.

I forgot to mention that in rare case this problem can be result of a bad firmware, in this case you sort it out with a firmware update, if firmware is available.

HOW DO I RECORD A DVD TO A VHS ON A VHS DVD COMBO BY PHILIPS

Cannot do this on a combo unit. There is a chip that senses copy protection and prevents recording a copy-protected DVD to a VHS and vice-versa. Solution: Use an outboard DVD player or an outboard VHS VCR and try the recording with the video routed through a "stabilizer" box. The stabilizer (about $30 or less on Ebay) defeats the copy protection on MOST DVDs, but not all. It works with Netflix DVDs. Route the audio as usual. Audio is not protected.

LiteOn LVC - 9016G dvd recorder Problem.

throw it in the trash- I got 1 from costco, liked it so much, bought another a week later. First one started giving me the "invalid" msg, 2nd one did the same 1 wk later, so I guess they're programmed to do so after so many hours after being plugged in. Too bad, cuz it was the easiest to use of 5 previous models I tried. Their easyguide onscreen menu was the greatest, plus the status of time, pause & recording indicator, which you could turn on or off as needed, were very useful.
A real shame to have to throw in the trash. Won't ever buy another thing from them.
