Sylvania DVC850C DVD Player

After watching a movie I was unable to retrieve the disk. I opened the tray but the disk was not there. How do I get it out? I can't locate it when I peek inside the tray opening. Thanks for your help.

My kids put a DVD in and the screen wouldn't move off "OPEN." I took the advice given in this thread (turning it upside down) which allowed the tray to open. Turns out THERE WERE TWO DISKS in the tray!

I must say that I strongly disagree with techman on this one IF you are a consumer who is good at carefully taking things apart and putting them back together.

I have had my daughter move a DivX DVD player with a disk in the tray.  If she tilts the unit, the disk may fall into the back of the unit.

It is realatively easy to open the unit carefully and retrieve the disk.

WARNING:  As techman states one can easily do more damage than good.  If you are NOT good at observing and figuring out how to take things apart and putting them back together, just get a pro to do it.

On this player the disk is prone to slide out of its place. This may also cause the door to jam when closing. To solve this, just turn it upside down and shake the disk out.

Sometimes the mechanism that spins the disk does not go up or down all the way then when it tries to eject its not all the way in idle. Could be from heat With it unplugged try and tip it upside down, maybe that will let the mechanism go back to its resting position so you can get it out. Reguardless it sounds like there is a problem that needs looked at inside the unit.

Its inside on the play rack or inside om the disc storage platform.. Nowgetting these bugger sout csn be more harmfull then good so if you ca=nt ubnplug the unit and plug back in and then the unit resets My advice would be to let a pro get them out for ya as I've seen a consumer get out a disk and csuse at least double the damage that cause the stuck disk.

My dvd player starts the movie over every time I turn the car on. Previous reviews said it would start back where it stopped. the manuel gives no information on this. Help!

Hi Arlene,

I checked Amazon for this player and looked at the questions and reviews. As luck would have it, I found this:

Q: dvd player: Does the Sylvania SDVD8791 dvd player remember where the movie stopped?

A: No, It's starts the movie over everytime the player is turned off.

So it appears that at least one other person is having the same experience as you are having. At first, I thought if you had it wired wrong it would "forget" but since it is portable and lacks batteries - that wouldn't be the case. For these same reasons, I can't imagine how a player can remember the location on a disk if power is removed from it. In any case, I doubt there is anything wrong with the player, it simply doesn't function as you were erroneously told or as hoped. When in the car, you should probably tell those watching to note the location on the disk before shutting off the car.

The Amazon link I used for my reply can be found here: http://www.amazon.com/Sylvania-SDVD8791-7-Inch-Mobile-Portable/dp/B004QGXWS6

Good luck!

Sylvania DVC850C after the February conversion

Simple answer is no.. not if it does not have a freeview tuner that goes for all those recorders out there that are not digital you could of course attach a freeview set top box to it but in my opinion with recorders being literally dirt cheap these days it's not worth the bother

Conia M580 DVD player has died, cannot open disc tray to retrieve DVD disc from player. Cannot unlatch the disc tray manually, as there's no pin-hole near the disc tray, unlike most (more expensive) DVD...

Easy... follow these instructions
  • unplug from the mains
  • take the cover off (3 screws on back panel, 1 screw each side, sticker on top front)
  • You will see the DVD disk in the player drive
  • Remove the plastic ******** top of the drive - 2 x small phillips screws
  • Lift out the DVD disk.... done.
