We STRONGLY recommend you not to use heat gun as it can heat other components, when your system have 3 red light and no fan are spinning it means that one of your fuses has gotten damaged and no power can go through your GPU chip.
Thanks

How to fix Red Ring of *****

You will need an x clamp kit to fix it. If you had taken all of the thermal paste off the cpu and gpu and tried to run it, you might have caused permanent damage that can not be fixed. You can try again. One of the reasons you get the ring of death is the solder joints under the cpu and gpu come apart from heat. The heat will melt the solder and the board will flex away from the chips.

I have a Xbox 360 thats showing 2 red lights. I understand that its an overheating problem with the cpu and gpu. I change the thermal paste, towel trick and reflew it. When I power it up, the fans com

Sorry to tell you this buddy, but i don't even need to see your console to know that it's totaled. First of all, the chips are attached to the board using lead free solder. Lead free solder melts at 217C (443F). You'll be lucky if you can get the xbox to 120C using that method. So no, you didn't perform a reflow. The only reason that works SOMETIMES is because the temperature causes tin whiskers to break down, which are the cause of red ring in a select few cases. Considering that an xbox operates at about 75C, and you blocked all ventilation entirely, you probably broke the 100C threshold. Electrolytic capacitors either melt or explode at 85C. Without capacitors, power cannot flow properly, which explains why the power brick keeps going from green(normal power flow) back to orange (either off or insufficient power). Buy a Xbox slim, and NEVER attempt that again. Apart from being an obvious fire and electrical hazard, you also rendered a machine that may have been repairable into a molten paperweight.

System error flashing red lights

You need to have the motherboard fixed, do to this you need to take the xbox360 apart then reflow the board.

there is a great 6part video guide on YouTube to view for free. 6 videos from the same fellow, each video is a few mins long, and goes over everything for you.

http://www.youtube.com/user/ohiocitysales#p/u and its free unlike some eBook site.

I actually used the same method to fix over 450 Xbox360 units with no problems at all, barring a few (but i have done nearly 500 so you expect a few problems along the way), you just need a few things though like a heat gun and some thermal paste. sounds hard, but it's very easy once you start!

Hope this helps in some way.

Power brick going red right as its plugged in

Sound like a short fet /L.D.O.R or a solder bridge under one of
the chips , you "worked" if you used a heat gun , there
is more than likely sever board warpage. A scratched
or broken trace will not trip the 1.8- 3.3 volt standby over current
(red light on the brick) it's normally a solder bridge.
but i could be wrong ,hard to tell with out line tracing
the caps with a scope.

When first started up there are three red lights. What does that mean?

You, my friend, have gotten the infamous RROD (Red Ring of Death). There are multiple ways to fix it, including many home remedies, but if you haven't had your xbox for longer than 3 years, call Microsoft and let them know you have the Red Ring of Death. They should send you a email with all the info needed. Take it into your local UPS Store and ship it to them. Takes 2-3 weeks turnaround but you get an xbox back that is fixed at no additional cost. Make sure to keep your harddrive and/or memory cards when you send it in, because you won't get them back if sent with it.

3 red lights

you have the red rings of death which means that your xbox 360 is over heating or needs the rrod repair there are parts you can buy on ebay and guides to fix this problem if your confident enough to void warrenty cause you have to take the xbox apart and remove and replace the x-clamps that are on the bottom of the motherboard and it is a pain cause i ve done that repair on mine or you can find a repairer in your area to repair it for you

Console wont boot up

It's probably not dying. Just spend the time replacing the thermal paste on the heat sinks with Silver Thermal Paste from Radio Shack. Takes awhile, and you have to do it right. Don't be lazy and impatient with it while prepping the surfaces, and maybe it will all be alright. I switched out those 'X' clamps on mine with 4- 5mmX12mm machine screws, and 4 - 5mmX20mm machine screws...4 - #10 washers to even the mother board with the rest of the casing, A #10 Teflon washer on top of the motherboard(to keep it from shorting out in the future, and for heat expansion), another #10 metal washer on top of that, and then screwed them evenly into the heat sinks..Works fine now... Had to grind a few of the washers to have a flat side, and drill some 3/16 holes to make the casing holes a little bigger than factory size...but it was easy.

Red ring of death error code 0102

Hi,

The red ring of death is a generic error code due to the design of the xbox. Microsoft has offered an extended three year warranty to anyone who is afflicted by the red ring of death. Try calling them at 1-800-4MY-XBOX with your consoles serial number, and they will start the replacement process to repair your console.

Processor / Motherboard Problem

My nephew had a similar problem, after you take off the heat sink you need to use a heat gun and apply it to specific parts of the mother board, then reapply the heat sink again and reassemble, here's a link to the description of repair, but the heat gun is cheaper. https://www.manncorp.com/expert_04.6x_xbox_repair_station/Xbox%20360%20Repair_071207a.pdf
