Tvs usualy have a few ways to hook them up. One is a coax cable this is the silver one in the back that you screw in a cable. The second are RCA cables these are the ones that are yellow, red and white. Yellow is always the video and white and red are for audio. If your using the coax cable your tv needs to be on channel 3 or 4 you may have to force the tv to go to that channel by pushing 03 on the remote. If you are using the Rca cables then you need to change the tv to "video 1" or "video 2" this changes the tv from tunner mode to aux input mode. Most DVD players dont have a coax out so you have to use the rca plugs. Some tvs have the rca plugs on the front (video 2) and the back (video 1) or line in. Some tvs have line out also so you need to figure out wich way you have it hooked up. Do a search for the model of your tv and it should show a diagram on how to hook it up.

Insert a VHS tape, hear sound, no picture? DVD working fine, both sound & picture. What am I doing wrong?

Likely a damaged video tape got in the unit and blocked the video heads--once blocked no picture but sound will be the case---the heads can be manually cleaned if you know how---The real issue will be to locate which tape was in the unit when this happened--clear the heads and put it back and right back to no image......

Cleaning tapes are only slightly effective--most shops (if you can find one who even works on this gear) will not charge much to clean the heads.

Ewd2202 dvd/vcr combo when i put a vcr tape i can

the video heads are probably dirty.there is a steel drum 1/2 inch thick that you can see if you look thru the front lid where the tape loads.the video heads are little black spec looking things on the bottom of the drum.the easiest way to clean the drum for a novice is to put isopropyl alcohol on a piece of 2 inch square paper.hold the paper very lightly against the drum with your right index finger.turn the drum from the top, anti clockwise.you will see some black stuff on the paper.do the same with a piece of dry paper.otherwise the tape will stick to the drum if still wet.DO NOT use a q tip,as it will get caught in the heads and break them.
sometimes, just running a new blank tape for 15minutes will dislodge the particles and the picture will re appear.if you have recently rented a movie, and saw lines running across the screen, and noise from inside the machine,it is damaged tape going across the heads and drum and it can wipe out the picture just like that.run a blank tape first and then clean the drum if you have to.

VCR tape playback not good

Check your "tracking" If the tape played fine in the old machine, then tracking is the answer, provided that the new machine records good.

No picture

Sounds really broken. Unless you can find a replacement DVD drive for low money , you may have to junk it.

VCR WILL NOT PLAY

The problem is the tape mechanism is malfuctioning. It trys eather to load or play a tape and a sensor inside tells the microprocessor to shut down this mechanism before damage is done to the tape. BUT sometimes a malfunction causes a damaged tape too. this unit has NO user serviseable parts inside itself, so its time to take this puppy into a repair shop to see if its worth the repair , Unless this units more then a few years old?? then its time to buy a shiny new unit. Good luck
