Question about Casio Exilim EX-S500 Digital Camera

1 Answer

Lens error When I switch on my Exilim Z-500, the zoom extends only half way of what it used to and there's some cracking noise as if something was blocking it. The zoom is at maximum, i.e. when I zoom in further it goes to digital zoom. But when I try to zoom out, it gives me another cracking noise, a lens error message and switches off. I can't take any pictures because the zoom setting seems to be totally messed up. The image is all blurry - at any distance. I partly disassembled the camera and had a look at the objective. I removed the outer metal rings and the lens etc as far I dared, but couldn't figure out quiet how this mechanics works. It seems not to be obstructed anyhow but much more 'on the wrong track' if you know what I mean... I bought the camera at ebay and don't have warranty. If you have any information on the internals of the objective and how it's assembled, PLEASE let me know. Many thanks, jk

The lenses are mounted to cylinders and the outside of the front cylinders have pins mounted to them. The pins ride in little tracks that move the front one in and out. The cylinders rorate with a motor and gears. You could have damaged gears or the pins could be off track. Its hard to know without seeing it. There is a guy who does camera repair really cheap and he sells some of the cameras he repairs on e-bay. His name is "darntoothysam" maybe you can search his webpage or the user name on e-bay. Hes really cheap too. I think what he usualy does is just swap out parts. Hes been doing it a while and has a tone of extra stuff to swap around. You could try and fix it then send it to that guy if you cant figure it out. You have to really tearn them down far to get to the lens mechanism. Did you drop it?

Casio EXILIM camera lens will not extend fully!!!

Try plugging the PC interface cord into the external connector. No need to hook it up to your computer, just plug it in and out a few times. Then try to power up the camera.
Good luck.

Camera shuts off lens error

"lens error" will only be fixed by sending into repairs. 800-706-2534 and keep choosing option 2. Tell them you have a lens error and they will tell you where to send it.

Casio EXILIM camera lens will not extend fully!!!

It's the focus lens gears. The often times get knocked out of alignment by an impact, or debris gets in there. This can be fixed, but Casio won't help. Hint...google my username. ;)

Casio EXILIM ZOOM EX-Z60... Problem

The power leads that are soldered from the main circuit board to the LCD are near the lens assembly ( about 7 o'clock). Did you break one of these? If so, it will need to be resoldered.

Camera doesn't turn on.

Does the camera was dropped done ? It sound like a zooming mechanism's issue (lens would not retract or extended) Try to press the power button on and hold it down while extending and twisting the telescopic zoom lens. It might fix your problem. In any case it could not make it worse Good luck!

You have to send it in to repairs. You're lucky that the lens even still comes out.
