You would need a programming cable as well. This is more likely than not beyond your current level of skill. This software is licensed by Moto, complex and not easy to get over the web. I suggest that first you sit down and make an outline of exactly what frequencies you want to transmit on if you are licensed and what to scan etc and go to a radio shop. It will be worth the money.

SOURCE: what are the button functions?

The buttons are programmable through the Radio Service Software (RSS) and can be used for any number of features. Some examples are Monitor, Scan, Repeater Access Tone (RAT), Light, Select, and the list goes on. Only reading the radio with the RSS can you be 100% sure.

SOURCE: how do i program my motorola mts 2000 flashport

Your Motorola MTS2000 is not a scanner but a high-end two-way radio. It requires a computer, special interface box (called a RIB, for Radio Interface Box), the proper cable from the radio to the RIB, and the programming software called RSS (Radio Service Software.)

This is much more difficult than a scanner to program and if not done properly can cause the radio to automatically transmit on frequencies that you are not authorized to use.

Try calling your local Motorola dealer and ask them if they will program it for you for receiving only. They will either flatly refuse or they will be happy to charge you a service fee. Some places are more willing than others.

I need to know the channel my motorola mts2000 flashport is operating on

This type of radio can only be read out by someone with a software subscription and appropriate equipment. This could be an online or local Motorola dealer, a large company, or a municipality.

Best regards.

Trying to get an MTS 2000 FLASHPORT to ride a primary channel and scan another channel

Program the scan list in the codeplug. This is a feature that must be programmed into the radio via the dealer programming software. By using the software the dealer will program scanning capabilities and then assign a button on the control head to turn scanning on and off. Every radio can have different features and functions programmed into the radio. If by pressing buttons on the face a "Z" like symbol apears, you've found your scan on/off button.

Motorola MTS 2000

Motorola may be able to tell you if you call them, but they may refuse.

If your radio has a front display, you can put it into test mode to see what firmware it has. If it is 5.44 or higher, then it is FlashPort.

You access the service menu by pushing the button with two dots (on the side above the PTT) 5 times quickly after the power-up beep. If you have no front display this is useless.

Motorola mts 2000

MTS2000 software will operate on Win98 and possibly XP, depending on the revision number you have. Yes, you can clone if the model number is the same. It will clone the entire codeplug of the radio. (Note: you will not have 2 same serial numbers. These are unique to the individual radio.)

Programming

Why buy a radio you cant program? I suggest you google for Motorola authorized radio shops in your area. Unless you have the software and equipment to do it, you won't be able to. You will also need letters of authorization for any channels you wish to have programed for transmit. If your a HAM or GMRS user be sure to bring a copy of your licence.
