Out of focus monitor - 955DF

I have a samsung 955DF monitor that is out of focus and the screen is kind of faded out. Is there a way to boost the brightness and contrast beyond the limits of what the onscreen menu can do? I've raised the gamma on my video card but even that's not enough. any suggestions?

Edge-focus is notoriously tricky on flat-screen picture tubes. I have not found anything on adjusting the focus for this model. it seems to be a common problem, though it seems to be more of a sample-defect problem rather than a poor design; a replacement should be OK.

My wife was on the comp. and the screen faded by pressing the on /off butten it lights up and fades away you can see the icons but very faint it screen is a samsung flat screen

If it is a LCD screen, it appears that the lcd inverter is going bad. It can be repaired, however with the lower costs of lcd monitors, you might be better off buying a new monitor.

CRT monitor screen is out of focus.text and other images looks blurry

Hi,

This kind of symptoms can be correct by the focus adjustment at the flyback transformer. FBT mostly has two control knob (Focus and Screen), focus is usually at the top one like in the sample picture below.

Open the back cover of your unit and then locate the FBT. Power on the unit and try to adjust the focus knob.

If the symptoms can't be cured by the this step, this is an indication that the CRT socket is already faulty. You have to replaced this parts and then make some adjustment at the focus knob of the FBT and your unit will back to normal again.

Screen went black! Briefly comes on, very faded, then blacks out again. Haven't had for more than a year...

I've had a similar issue with my Samsung screen awhile back. It should be that your monitor's power supply unit has degraded and needs replacement. You will have to send it to Samsung for repairs.

Can I hook the SyncMaster 955df to my laptop for a larger viewing area

Hello there :
Yes you can i have done this on several laptops to troubleshoot the screen all you have to do is to hook up the end that you would normally hook to your computer in the video port on the laptop and plug in the monitor and then turn on the laptop and you will now be able to see the laptops normal screen on the monitor that you just plugged in ok

Screen fades to white

Most probably failure in the LCD controller IC in the lcd controller board. that no signal was sent out to the lcd driver IC thus you could only see white display. A replacement of LCD panel is the best solution. best regards

Hi,

Perhaps what is needed is to re-adjust the focus/screen controls. They are located at the FBT. A friendly reminder, standard precautions applying when working with live HV.

Hi, Based on your post/description and assuming that the CRT monitor does not have any failed component(s), it would appear that you have a weak picture tube. If relatively new, claim warranty and have it replaced; if in service for some time, it may require adjustment in the Screen and Focus controls of the FBT; if really old, you may need to boost the color drive transistors B+. The second and last suggestion above would require that you be familiar and comfortable working with TV/Monitor units, high voltage and working with the unit powered on. If you are not comfortable performing a do-it-yourself, perhaps your best bet would be to seek the services of a qualified professional.
