I've got my ADS PTV-390 installed, and I can see the video and hear the sound while capturing, but when I playback the captured file, there is no sound. I've been fighting with this thing for a month over other issues and I'm about ready to toss it off my deck! HELP please!
If you can hear the sound while capturing, it's probably not a hardware problem. First - the obvious - go to your Volume icon in your systray (lower right hand corner). Right click on the icon. Then click on adjust audio properties. That will open a window that will show playback and recording volumes. Make sure they are both at least half way. If it is, make sure that the software and drivers you're using are all updates. If they are, you may be using a corrupt codec or for some reason it is not used correctly. Try completely uninstalling the application, manually deleting the registry entries and configuration files, and reinstalling the application from scratch. Good luck.

Im not sure about your computer setup. Are you capturing via usb or have dedicated video capture device? Do you have sound when connected camera to tv. Does your video capturing device require to supply sound separate for example from camera headphone jack to video capture device?
your problem could be complex especially using XP did it work before? and why are you using on operating system that is 11 years expired. that could be your problem right there.

Make sure you check the recording source for audio and also the volume levels. Check the default audio input settings in Vista as well as the audio recording source in the recording program.
Sony got back to me with the answer, so I will post it here for future reference. If there is no audio when USB streaming with PIXELA ImageMixer version 1.5 software on the Microsoft Windows XP operating system, change the USB capture device setting for sound to USB Audio Device. In the Image Mixer Tool settings, confirm the USB Capture Device settings are set for an available USB Audio Device. This setting is not defaulted to the USB streaming mode.
This would be the icon of an open end wrench in the top right hand corner of the capture environment screen.
Follow this procedure to change the USB capture device setting for sound in the Pixela ImageMixer 1.5 software.
1. In the ImageMixer window, click the USB Device Capture icon.
2. Click the Preferences icon.
3. In the Capturing/Recording Preferences window, in the USB Capture Device Setting section, click the down arrow to select the desired sound device.
4. Click the OK button.

The white and red leads off the VCR are typically audio, the yellow is video. I would suspect the problem is elsewhere. The cards capture software is a likely candidate.
ah. This happens to me sometimes. Well, for some reason it always works when i first open USB streaming tool( this program is not for recording)use the program to edit the video, like to fix brightness etc.
Then open capturing tool. This is what you use to capture the video to your computer. What i do is to press the play button in the program, not the capture button. The video on the camcorder and the video on your screen should start playing. I do this just to test the video if its gonna have sound or not. Then you rewind the video by pressing the rewind button in the program. After that press the capture button. Sometimes it records and you don't hear the sound on the computer, I'm not sure but maybe after its captured into the computer, the video will have sound. If you do record, but with no sound, record about a minute and then stop it. Go to where you saved the video and check if there is any sound.
Hope this helps you. Sorry if it's kinda confusing because i don' use the program no more. I use a DVD recorder which you connect your camcorder to the DVD player and it burns the video directly to a DVD. Its much mroe easier but you can't play around with it on the computer.
