Hello. I Love this unit. Never had any problems until I rented a movie. Door would not open initially, unplugged unit and did not attempt again for a few months. Unit plays CD's fine, in all discs, but not DVD's, reads "disc error" or "no disc". Have already tried to clean with cleaning disc. Also if I must replace unit will I be able to use the surround sound it came with on another unit? Hello. I Love this unit. Never had any problems until I rented a movie. When attempting to play dvds, the picture is distorted and split (doubled vertically) on the television. this occurs with all dvd's and the cables have been replaced

Re: Won't play DVD's
Are there any stickers on the CD? these disks spin at high revolutions at first then they spin down and run at a constant speed. At first its trying to find the start and end of the disk and any information on it that it can give you about the disk. If the balance is not good it can warble the lens so it cant focus on the info.
There are 2 sides of the CD and DVD one usualy has a lable with the title and a picture, the other side is the data side. The data side should always be down and you should look at it in good light to see if there is any finger prints on it or anything stuck to the bottom. I know it sounds dumb but its easy to sit it on somthing and it pick up tape, a sticker, a price tag anything and you are unaware of it.

the cd is touching the base while it is spinning...i came across a similar problem and used a flathead screwdriver and gently pry the cd plate upwards so there is a little space ...otherwise take it to a repar shop...
The dvd's are not spinning up correctly. If the belt inside is worn this will cause cd's to play but dvd's fail. open up and replce belt (small black rubber running on motor)
I know what you mean , some drives are LOUD .Try wraping it
with towels ,just kiding . I have recived alot of request to quite
these drives down , I am working on a sound insulator
that will wrap around the cd rom to knock 10-20db off
but i have to watch out for heat build up. Ill keep you posted.
Bobby.
I presume the unit works fine it's just loud, right?
Try to put your laptop always on flat surface. Uneven base gives angle to the already tiny clearance space for the disc. Could be that the DVD disc run coz its finer, it will spin much slower than CD disc.
sir,,,your appliance needs maintenance,,,,u need to clean your dvd player especially its lens but be careful you might destroy it,,,use ligther fluid or any in cleaning liquid materials but it should evaporate fast,,,,thnkss and hope to help you thnksssssss,,!!
