Kenmore 74812 Gas Dryer Logo
Anonymous Posted on Aug 30, 2011

I have a Kenmore gas dryer Model 74812200. It is no longer heating up. When I turn it on, I hear a clicking sound for about 30 seconds then it goes off. Then about a minute later I hear the clicking sound again and then it goes off. Would this be the igniter not working. I did dry clothes last night and it was fine. Thanks for any help

You would not hear the click if the ignitor was bad. It won't click until the flame sensor get heated up by the ignitor. So that tells me the thermal fuse ain't melted. I would say them coils on the gas valve are the problem. I have a Kenmore gas - themobilian_2943.jpg

Dryer heats for 5 minutes then no heat, but keeps tumbling

Perhaps the flame sensor is not working. If it does not sense heat, it will shut off the gas. You might go online and search for a manual to help you troubleshoot, or go to:

for troubleshooting help and parts. I hope this is of help to you.

Unit works fine. Vent is clear. Ignitor turns on every 30 seconds or so, but no gas flow. Do not hear valves opening (don't know if they make a clicking sound when open, but thought they did)

KENMORE 80 SERIES GAS DRYER RUNS BUT DOES NOT HEAT

You have a defective gas valve solenoid. If you have an appliance repair center in you area, go to the parts dept, give them your exact model number and they should have the part you need in stock. The solenoid is easy to replace....you can do it yourself and save some money..

Good Luck,

Kenmore gas dryer not heating

GAS DRYER, NO HEAT. CHECK THE HEAT SETTING FIRST.
IS IT ON AIR FLUFF? I'M NOT BEING SMART, BUT YOU WOULD BE SURPRISED HOW MANY CALLS I TAKE THAT ARE ON AIR FLUFF. SECOND, LISTEN FOR A DISTINCT CLICK WHEN YOU TURN ON THE DRYER. IF YOU HEAR IT, LOOK IN THE INSPECTION HOLE ON THE FRONT OF THE DRYER, OR REMOVE THE TOE PLATE TO VIEW THE IGNITOR. IF THE IGNITOR GLOWS AND THEN CLICKS OFF BUT NO FLAME, YOU HAVE A BAD SOLENOID ON THE GAS VALVE. IF THE IGNITOR GLOWS, BUT NEVER CLICKS OFF, THE RADIANT SENSOR ATTACHED TO THE SIDE OF THE BURNER ASSEMBLY IS BAD.

IF YOU DON'T HEAR A DISTINCT CLICK WHEN YOU TURN ON THE DRYER, THE MOST LIKELY CAUSE IS THE THERMAL FUSE LOCATED ON THE BACK OF THE DRYER DOWN NEAR THE EXHAUST DUCT. IT IS A SMALL WHITE ITEM ATTACHED TO THE EXHAUST DUCT WITH TWO WIRES ATTACHED.
