Question about 2wire Wireless-G 802.11g ADSL Gateway

2 Answers

My laptop is in the living room, my 2WIRE router in the bedroom. When I turn on the MAC it sometimes indicates that I am not connected to the Internet. I then have to fool around with diagnostics to try and reset it. Is it possible that the router signal is too weak? If so how can I boost the signal? Thanks Ken C

The easiest way to know if you have a weak signal is either by the indicator bars for the signal, or if the connection improves as you get closer to your router.

Your router might be getting weak and isn't transmitting like it should, or you could have too much interference such as a large appliance between the router and the laptop, or a thick wall, etc...

You can buy a signal booster for the house or run 2 wifi routers too.

The other possibility is the wifi card in the laptop could be weak as well.

SOURCE: Connecting 2wire modem./router to extra linksys router

to get this right you must make sure that the 2wire will be configured to be your gateway which means that the 2wire itself will be connected to the internet then set the linksys to DHCP mode because if you dont it will give you a router behind router error , make sure that the 2wire is properly authenticated and connected to the internet to make sure access the gui by typing gateway.2wire.net on your browser and run system set up wizard

SOURCE: 2wire gateway signal range problems

1. Put the router in the highest location possible in the house.
2. Make sure the gateway is installed in the center of the house rather than in a corner of house, so it will cover area on all sides.
3. Make Sure you dont have any devices that may interfere with the signal eg. cordless phone , close to the gateway.
4. Use channel 3 or 7.

SOURCE: I have 2WIRE wireless router i have 2 pc's Pentium

Ensure that you are using a crossover cable to connect the two routers together, if thats not what you are presently using, then make sure that you are allocating different static I.P Addresses to both of them.
But if what you are saying is that you are trying to connect the separately, and not together to the network, and its not working like the first one, then I suggest that you return it to the point of purchase, if you still have the warranty card, before its too late.
Hope this helps.
Goodluck!

Can I connect a second computer (not a laptop) in my bedroom wirelessly to the 2wire modem that I have connected to my main PC?

Yes, you can. just make sure that the computer has a wireless capability, if not then you need to connect a wireless adapter so you could connect the computer to your 2wire router wirelessly. Another possible way to have it hooked up to your 2wire router is via Ethernet cable but depending on the distance you may need a longer cable.

Router issues in my apartment.

When to moved into the penthouse, there are more walls between the wireless router and the laptop in the bedroom. The walls are probably reinforced concrete walls which will stop or weaken the radio waves penetrating into different rooms. When you lived in a house this was not a problem.
The only way to solve this problem is to move the wireless router near an opening such as a door and move the laptop as close as possible to the wireless router to get a better signal strength.
The outer way is to install a wireless repeater or connect a long network cable to the router and the laptop.

Painfully slow desktop internet use

I would start with running network setup wizard again on my desktop. also run a full system test at pcpitstop.com and see what all it tells you. If you are running a 2-Wire..GIVE IT BACK. spend a couple of bucks and get a linksys.
