We are getting a brown colour in our hot water from our Vulcan freeloader (assume this is where its from anyway). Is this a fixable problem or will we need to look at a new unit? The current unit is about 18 years old. Any thoughts or things we can look to do would be appreciated. Thanks

Unfortunately there is no fix other than replacing the tank, it has a lot of rust buildup inside over 18 years, which is a very long time for a hot water tank today.

no you stupid man. its a primatic cylinder. hence your getting brown water into your hot water supply. either just hope the bubble is reproduced in the tank or flush system and re-fill...this should go away. or learn about primatic cylinders.

p.s nothing to do with rust building up inside. what stupidity.

Vulcan freeloader 260 suddenly turns off after heating to temperature. Control unit was just replaced but still doing the same. I was told by another person it is the thermo couple but the fitter said

The thermocouple makes sense, if it does not send enough electricity to the control unit it will shut off. The thermocouple was probably moved when a new control unit was installed. Check to be sure the pilot flame touches the thermocouple, if not realign it else replace it.

Low hot water pressure

I am not familiar with the model of heater you have but I thought I would mention; if you don't have a water softener and the thermostat is set to 140 degrees or above in a hard water area limescale can be a possible cause of your problems and it would be wise to take a look inside before you begin throwing money at it.

Can I replace the pilot light on a Vulcan Freeloader 260 gas HWS?

Hello...how old is the unit? Today it is very common for gas appliances to have electric igniters instead of a pilot light. Unless you are familiar with gas controll/regulator valves I would not recommend trying this yourself. I believe it is more likely a faulty or dirty thermo-couple. Again , unless you are familiar with the opperation of gas supplies ,controls ,etc. DO NOT ATTEMP to do this yourself!!! Gas is very dangerous for the less than well informed! Call a service pro or speak to and ask for the assistance of a knowledgable friend.

My Mum has a Vulcan freeloader 260 gas hot water system and it appears that the pilot light has gone out. The only problem is I can't find where it is to test how to turn it back on. Can someone please...

Remove the access panel lower right hand side and locate the pilot light re-igintion push button. The instructions are pritnted on the back of the access panel.
