I turned emoji on..it downloaded, it's now on my keyboard. When I type a message the smiley face/symbol appears in my message. The recipient of my message is not seeing the smiley face.

There are a few different ways to type the degree

1. Use the keyboard shortcut: Press and hold the Option key, then press the letter K on your keyboard. This will insert the degree symbol.
2. Use the character viewer:

• Go to the Edit menu and select Emoji & Symbols.
• In the search field, type "degree".
• Double-click the degree symbol to insert it into your document.

1. Use the ASCII code:

• Press and hold the Option key and the Shift key.
• Press the number 8 on the numeric keypad. This will insert the degree symbol.

How to Use Emoji on Your Smartphone or PC
If you use Windows 7, you have to copy and paste, making for a tedious process. If you want to use emoji on Windows 7, you should know that Microsoft's official support for it is an updated version of Segoe UI Font, and as such, will only appear in black and white. Once installed, band as such, will only appear in black and white. Once installed, you can visit this website to see all your emoji on one page. From here you can click and copy emoji and paste them individually into a message or email.
Using emoji is so much easier on Windows 8.1 and Windows 10, with native support built right into the system. To access emoji in Windows 8.x and later, open the touch keyboard by clicking on the symbol on the taskbar.
If this symbol isn't available, right-click on the taskbar and select "Toolbars- Touch Keyboard."
From here, you can access your emoji by clicking the smiley face on the touch keyboard.

1. Select Menu > Messaging > Create message and a message type.
2. In the To: field, enter the recipient's number or e-mail address (network service). To select a recipient, select Add. You can have more than one recipient.
3. In the Text: field, write your message.To insert a special character or a smiley, select Options > Insert symbol.
   To attach content to the message, scroll to the attachment bar at the bottom of the display, and select the desired type of content. The message type changes automatically to multimedia message.
   
4. Select Send.

That are smileys,its like expressions. your mobile set does't support it. so you are getting it like that. (it will be like a head symbol)

This is one of the annoying aspects of this phone... The smileys show as symbols & not like the yellow faces like nokia phones etc. Unfortunately there is no way to activate smileys

Symbols like that depend on the application you use, for example :) will be converted in msn messenger to an smiley face.
They depend mostly on the application you use.

Click on a text box or open a text document.

2 Press the "Num Lock" key to activate your keyboard's numeric keypad.

3 Press and hold the "Alt" key.

4 Enter the numeric code on the number pad. Press "1" to create a "smiley face." Display a musical note by pressing "14". To make a heart symbol, press "3".

5 Release the "Alt" key after entering each numeric code. The symbol will appear.
