White lines across tv screen

Without seeing the lines I can't be sure what your set has wrong, but here are a some possibilities:

If the lines are lines are confined to the top inch or two of the screen and the picture looks otherwise normal, the trouble is bad capacitors in the vertical output circuit. Fixable by replacing the bad parts.

If diagonal lines are across the entire face of the picture tube and the picture looks washed out, the trouble is often a bad capacitor on the 200-volt line to the picture tube. This may be on the main circuit board near the horizontal output transformer, or on the small circuit board plugged onto the end of the picture tube. Again, replacing the bad capacitor can fix this.

If your TV is actually an RCA, someone may have bumped a rear-panel adjustment. On the back of the TV near the bottom right are two small knobs. RCA left these adjustments exposed inside of putting them inside the set like other manufacturers. These sometimes get bumped if someone was behind the set cleaning, or if a pet got back there and hit them with a tail. The top knob adjusts focus, and the bottom knob adjusts something called G2 or screen voltage. If this gets turned up too high it can cause the faded picture and diagonal white lines. Turn the adjustment down until a black screen looks black instead of gray.

A bad picture tube or horizontal output transformer can also cause lines through the picture. If this is the case with your set, it's time for a new TV. The transformer is relatively inexpensive but labor costs aren't, and the repair bill may exceed $200. If the tube is bad, there's no point even considering repair. The tube cost alone exceeds the cost of new TV.

Hopefully your lines are easy and cheap to fix. Good luck, and thanks for using Fixya!

The tv has a black screen with a white horizontal line accros the screen. From where you connect you coax cable, I used to have to wiggle the cable to get video, i currently have audio but only the while...

Hi,
Your problem is not in the tuner. Since you have a sound but horizontal line only and when you bump the unit the video comes out, this is only indicated that you have a dry joints in the vertical section. Re-soldering the cold solder on that area will cure the problem. Dry joints is hard to spot so you need to work with a good source of light. Vertical IC is located near the FBT and secured with the heat sink.
Hope it may help you.
Have a nice day.
Thanks for using fixya.

Samsung rear projection tv have vertical black linens up and on tv

you have a bad dmd module and it cost around $750-$800
Happend, because a bad soldering connections in that module. Lines will come on and off. Probably 1 day will stay on. For last 2-3 years im seen that only on hlm and hln series. Probably
happens on other models. but, i never seen that.
Is not that hard to replace that module. You have to remove 2 screws from left side and 1 screw from bottom righ side of module and 4 of them
from around dlp unit unpulg all cables ( i think
3 cables ) that it. Same way install new one in.
but you will need to adjust a module position to get picture to fill whole screen.

Verticle lines on screen

This is a very easy fix. Your cable box is not grounded correctly. To fix this you need a AC Plug adapter. This will change your TV ac plug from a 3 wire to a 2 wire. This may sound funny, but trust me on this. I have fix a lot of TV in NY doing just this.24001fc.jpg

Hyundai 42inch plasma tv

If these are thick black lines, this is most likely line frequency noise entering the set. you may have a leakage from the DC ground on the secondary side of the powersupply to the AC side, or a bad filter capacitor(s). Most of the time it is the filter caps that give these types of problems. If you are connected to cable TV service, or an outside antenna you can also have this problem from an AC ground loop return. Also if there is a device such as a VCR connected to the TV and it has problems, it can cause this as well...
