Screen on Toshiba M35x S149 Laptop blank/flickers

I am trying to diagnose whether I need a new screen or just a new flow inverter for my screen problems. Is there a simple way to tell which one it could be? The screen initially went dark although I could still adjust the brightness and notice the change in brightness on the dark blank screen. Occasionally I can see the image but it jumps all around. When I first wake it from hibernation I can clearly see the mouse pointer and move it throughout the whole screen before it goes dark/blank/jumping image. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks

This can be caused by many reasons, here are some that comes to my mind: 1. bad connection between computer and screen, usually an easy one, but since its a laptop, you cannot change cable, so you will have to take it to the lab. anyway, if it is the problem, fixing it should be cheap. 2. in order to make sure it is "only" a faulty monitor, connect the laptop with another monitor, I dont know the exact function in this specific model, but as long as it has an video output, it can be done. 3. it is posible that backlight invertor has short circuit and should be replaced. this one can cost up to several hundred dollars, so be prepered. hope this helps.

If you are getting display in an external monitor, it means Laptop is working fine except LCD. Better to replace the LCD. It will not coat you much. Contact Service center or Computer accessories dealer, for used LCD, they used to have from old PC.

Hello my toshiba satellite m35-s149 dos not boot power button stays on I can hear fan and also hearr it beep. but theres nothing on screen if u can giv me some advice appreciate it thanx

If you can hear the startup music, try plugging the laptop into a regular monitor and press FN+F5 to view your operating system. This will mean that your backlight has blown and you need to replace the screen. If not, oh boy, it could mean that your motherboard may have taken a dive. Before you trash it replace the meory chips, just in case they have become defective.

I have no display on the screen. Its black.

This issue is usually of of 3 things...

1) the internal cable has come loose on the LCD inverter or motherboard
(need to open the laptop up by a trained tech)
2) Backlight buld is bad (look at the screen in bright lighting... can you see the image of the windows desktop there but very dark?)
3) Bad motherboard (must be replaced)

best of luck,

NO DISPLAY ON TOSHIBA M35X-S149 LAPTOP

You could have a defective screen - a defective inverter or a CCFL lamp.
To determine if you have a LCD screen or video card problem, read this and follow the instructions.

Defective CCFL backlight, it may have the following symptom:

  • Screen flashs on red/pink and off.
  • Picture stays on in red and slowly be come normal.
  • Picture flickering with dim display.
  • Picture flickering on and off.
All these symptoms indicate that the LCD backlight lamp (CCFL Lamp) has reached the end of the life and all you need to do is replacing the CCFL lamp

Connect an external monitor to your laptop and power it up, if you see the normal Windows images then the video card and laptop is OK and the problem is definitely the backlight.

Dim image and/or dark display on the laptop's LCD screen indicates a faulty LCD backlight and it could be the inverter that supplies high voltage to the CCFL lamp or it is the CCLF lamp is nearly burnt out or burnt out, most likely this is the case.
The inverter can be replaced easily but the CCLF lamp is more time consuming and requires soldering skills.

Screen on Toshiba M35x S149 Laptop blank/flickers

Ok, from the beginning. Can you do a cold boot and get into the bios? (is there an image on the screen then)
Secondly, can you connect to an external monitor and see an image?
Did it do this only when it was heading in to hibernation? If so, it sounds like the power management needs some adjustment.
If there's no image on the external monitor, you may have a video/motherboard problem, or it still could be the operating system/power management.
It all depends on if you have video in bios.
Let me know.
Good luck
