I have a PC and a laptop. Both internet connections were great. Now my PC has really bad connection (All bars) but constantly disconnects from the internet or wont stay connected very long at all. I've even upgraded from XP to windows 7 and the problem remains, this was a clean install, not an upgrade. Anyone have any ideas as to what the problem can be? Using a Belkin wireless usb adapter.

Have you gotten the latest driver for the Belkin? How far is the Belkin from the router. Use the cable and base with the Belkin and put it as close to the ceiling as you can. If the router is on the floor or on the desk, relocate it to a higher location.

SOURCE: i cannot connect to internet with my wireless usb adapter

you need to get into your routers settings and make sure that DHCP is enabled to automatically assign ip addreses and also go to the properties of your wireless adapter and ensure obtain ip address automatically is checked. Turn off any WEP or WPA security until you have all the connections, make sure that the adapter is on the same wireless channel as your router and that all the pc's are on the same network workgroup eg WORKGROUP or MSHOME. It may be as simple as right clicking on your wireless adapter icon in control panel>network conections and select connect.

Check and see if this setup guide matches your device?

Setup Guide

If it does we can probably search for more information.

Did you configure your router using WEP, WPA security (using passphrases) on your router?
Did you enable MAC address checking on your router?

Ipconfig media disconnected

Do you have an internet connection on your computer? My Toshiba shows all media is disconnected and even shows a red X on my internet connection, but I am connected to the internet. I believe it is a driver that needs to be updated. Your question is very vague so I can not really give you a solid answer.

Limited or no connectivity to the internet. my setup: the telephone port is approx 30m from where i need internet access. Originally I had a dlink wireless router set up but was connected via cable, now...

On which port of the D-link router did you plug the WRT160N router?

Do this setup.

Disconnect the WRT160N from D-link.

Connect a computer to port 1 of the WRT160N. Access the setup page by typing 192.168.1.1 on the address bar. you may need to type in the username and password for WRT160N. on the setup page Change the LAN IP address from 192.168.1.1 to 192.168.2.1. save the settings.

Connect a cable from port 1,2,3 or 4 of the D-link router to the Internet port of the WRT160N. turn off everything then turn them on starting from cable modem>D-link >WRT160N then computer.

You should be able to access the internet.

I think you have lost your PPPOE internet connection. Reestablish the connection. If this is not the problem, click your wireless connection on the taskbar and search for your wireless device and reconnect. BPCS
