I have a 60gb Phat Ps3. I recently went to update it to the latest firmware and it downloaded the update fine and was running normally. Then as it was installing the update, the system shut itself off and had the blinking red light. I flipped the power switch in the back and waited a few days thinking that it had overheated. when i went back to it it turned on fine and started with the installing update screen. the problem is it will get about half way thru the install and then turn off again and have the blinking red light. thanks for any help you can provide

Hello there vincent

If you have the red blinking light then you have the RED light of death AKA the RLOD.

The light is a warning sign to let you know something is wrong. I can give you the quick explanation, There are 2 chips on the motherboard inside the PS3, the GPU (graphics) and the CPU (brain), when playing the ps3 the solder heats up and when you finish playing it cools down, over time this will cause the soldering to crack and the chips to lose connection with the motherboard and you get the RLOD.

WHERE TO GO FROM HERE

Option 1 - Call Sony

In warranty the Price is Free, out of warranty the Price is $150, the whole process is 4-6 weeks

You can call Sony and they will collect the PS3, repair/replace, and deliver the PS3 back to you

Option 2 - Fix it your Self

You can use a PS3 fix manual to get this fixed easily and at home using household tools you probably already own.

Click Here For The PS3 Manual which has helped so many people like you.

Good luck

Best regards

Peter

I have an Olevia 537H TV from 2007. I would like to download the latest firmware for the unit in hopes it will correct my audio issue on NBC only whereby the music drowns out the people speaking. All other...

Before updating the firmware, you should know about the version of the firmware now running with your TV. Without knowing it, and updating the firmware; might cause the set to get irresponsive to any external commands. So beware before updating. After make sure about the firmware now running, check the site linked here to get latest firmware update to your TV. It will be best to contact any service technician in this case, I suggests.

Ps3 won't play webcast

Hello,
The sites and clients you are trying to watch movies from updated to a more recent version of flash. Sony will have to release a firmware update that contains the latest version for your PS3 to be able to run these movies. Keep checking the firmware updates, and keep your PS3 up to date or watch the webcasts on your PC.

Games wont load in on playstation 3

If you recently formatted your PS3 it will be restored to its factory defaults as well as the firmware. So you have to hook up your PS3 to the internet to download the latest firmware updates. This should make your games run again.

Hey i can't play my ps2 games on ps3 60gb what's wrong?

The 80 gig Sony PS3 supports PS2 gamesthrough software emulation.
The success of this emulation was poor at first, but Sony has improved it with several generations of firmware upgrades.
If you are experiencing difficulties with PS2 emulation, it is recommended that you upgrade to the latest firmware.
The 60GB PAL model also utilizes software emulation

Also some games may not currently be supported, check here:

Hope I could help with your problem

My ps3 used to be backwards compatible for ps1-ps2 and ps3 now it only plays ps3.why?and how do i get it back?

is it the 60 gb model?? that is the only one that did backwards compatibility. all others dont. if u do have the old 60gb then maybe sony got rid of it on the firmware updates. go on the ps3 website and update an older firmware and see if that works.

Ps3 wont boot red flashing light all since download latest update

Hi,

Your console is going into protection mode to protect the from being damaged.

First thing do is check the ventilation, make sure the fans are running, make sure you have min of 1 foot around the PS3.

If all is ok, with the PS3 in stand by mode Press and hold the power button for 5 secs.. until you hear the second beep this cause the PS3 to reset.

If you have the 60GB version then you might have a faulty power supply which was a known issue on these 60GB versions, if you have contact Sony and plead for a console repair free of charge, other than that they might do a repair but it will cost approx £145 in the UK.

Thanks

Hd wont work now on ps3, was working but now is not

have you updated the system software to the latest version? One of the recent updates (2.41) has caused this same issue for lots of people (read comments in this article) http://www.slipperybrick.com/2008/07/sony-ps3-241-firmware/

one person suggested formatting your hard drive, and on the next boot the ps3 should prompt you to download firmware, which theoretically should fix it. At this point it may be worth a shot, you should go to sony's support site for ps3 and follow the instructions on how to do that, or just check out some forumns, don't give up hope!
