On holiday my Dimage Z1 got knocked off a chair (whilst in a protective case). Ever since the pictures, both through viewfinder and when taken, are blurry and pink-ish.
Is there anything I can do to fix this, or is it simply 'buy a new camera' time?
Thanks for the advice! How much would one normally pay for repairs from those guys?
On another note, am now looking at new cameras (in case I need to replace this one)--and the Dimage Z6 looks pretty good. Any feedback on it?Thanks for the advice! How much would one normally pay for repairs from those guys?

It is a 3.3 megapix camera and was expensive for its day so I would contact the repair department at Minolta but dont tell them it was dropped as they wont touch if you do and they may have a flat rate for the repair . I just bought a fuji 5.6 megapix for 200 bucks. Good Luck

Sometimes Z1 displays an hourglass icon and pretends it hangs. In such case you have to wait a while (sometimes quite long).
If it hangs without any signal for a user, I'm afraid there is some fault in electronics. Try to recognise if your card is OK and if the "last" photo is correctly saved. Maybe then you'll get some idea.
I had such phenomen a few times (out of tens of thousands of pictures). I always removed batteries and after that the camera was fully operational.
I followed the directions that were posted on the free suggestions on your site: Turn the camera on in viewfinder mode. Turn it off and turn it upside down in your hand. Smack the bottom of the camera several times with your other hand. Turn it back over and turn it back on. It took me three tries, but voila, on the third try, it worked! I could see through the viewfinder again.
I had the same problem. I got it to work by adjusting the viewfinder focus back and forth, this is the little nob to the left of the viewfinder. Might work for you?
please use my real email account to deal with buying my battery door. $10 or for $25 I'll install it for you. keithtracypierceATcomcast.net
I am no expert at all, and the only camera I took apart was a Z3, which I did only to remove the battery door. dunno if Z3's similar to Z1; it IS similar to Z6 though.
Just a guess: electrical contacts at the viewfinder switch?
my dimage z5 and see alot of problems on ebay the net ....anyways being a tech for 25 years the cover came right off and u can see the switch is surface mounted. there is supposed to be a plastic lever coming out to manually engage to outer switch but missing ...upon closer inspection i could see alot busted up chards of small plastic ...the insideof the switch was completely ruined for bits where falling out...its just stuck in main veiwfinder.
cant find the part itself anywhere on net. heard sony bought out minolta.
my only bet is buy a broken camera with different prob. on ebay.
